    Great review! I have a good opinion now on this denim. Are there plans to do this in the other cuts as well?

      Thank you. The 555, 777, 666 and 888 will be done in this denim, I believe.

        @Jett129:

        Just curious….Do you normally wear jeans right out of the bag?

        You mean without hemming or without soaking? I normally have my jeans hemmed as my inseam is short at 31”. As these were a sample it wasn’t discussed. Regarding soaking,  I don’t bother if they are fully sanforised.

        @organisys:

        555 suit you man, not too slim.
        😎

        Thank you. I think this more forgiving denim makes a lot of difference. Visually it doesn’t give as many telltales that the fabric is too tight. Very clever really.

          Some pictures showing the jeans from other angles.

          No doubt that the creases relax a little over night, but they do not disappear. They are also rounder and fatter than what I’d expect on normal 21oz. I suspect it will make for interesting fades…

              No problems at all, although I don’t recall regular 21oz being difficult in that respect either. It has been a while though.

                UPDATE - one week of wear…

                I have now had the jeans for one week and have worn them six days out of the last seven. Obviously it is early but I have some reflections regarding fit, stretch and fading.

                For those of us with experience of selvedge denim in general and the 21oz in particular we know that the way they fit on the first day will change, sometimes radically, over the next few days. The regular 21oz is a great example of this. The stretch that occurs in just a few days of use is marked and noticeable, not just at the waist but in the whole top block and often in the knees too. In addition the form of the garment changes due to this stretching, but also because of the formation of stacks, honeycombs and whiskers. With the 21oz Shinayaka denim this process of stretching and forming is either retarded or (after seven days at least), non-existent.

                The general stretch has happened, they are marginally looser the the very first time I put them on. There was definitely some stretch after day one, but I can't trace any more after that. The back of the top block has stretched only a little and the knees barely at all. With the standard 21oz the stretching process can continue over the first week. Of course this process may continue to develop, just at a much slower rate than normal.

                As I intimated in an earlier post, the creases do not form as readily. They do form, and the do stay inbetween wears, but it takes a little longer. The honeycombs have the best defintintion and retention, the creases over the hip have taken a while to set but are there now and becoming more defined and long lasting, and the stacks are barely defined at all.

                Initially I was concerned that this may retard fading but I'm now tempted to think it won't. The standard 21oz is not a quick fader (but the results when they do fade are sublime). This denim appears to behave in a similar fashion. So while there shouldn't be much action after seven days, the bits that normally lose indigo are, upon close inspection,  doing so. The interesection of the yoke and back rise is going electric blue, and the exposed corners of the backpockets also. The crotch area has that electric blue sheen to it as well and the indigo is getting lighter at the knee. I can just make out the changes in colour amongst the peaks and troughs of the honeycombs too. The denim is bleeding onto my old white adidas as well  😃

                My conclusion is that these will fade beautifully, although the wear patterns may be different to how they are on a tradtional pair of 21oz. My pair of IH-555-01 in W34 are now in Gosport so at some point in the future a comparison will be possible. Being a terrible geek I find that prospect very exciting  😉

                      Holy cow. Just saw this thread. So pumped for the stretch jeans. As I get deeper into my 30s I definitely need that comfort. I also don’t really fit that well into the 666 cut so I didn’t pick up the ignition pair. I’m just living vicariously via SaberGirl for a while (thanks Anne!!!) man, so much great denim by Iron Heart and only one pair of legs. This will definitely be my next indigo purchase. So looking forward to it. It’ll really help the 777 cut in the upper thigh where I personally feel the most resistance for myself. And plus if I can toss up a high roundhouse kick like Chuck Norris in denim. That’s a win

                        Three week update…

                        So I have had the jeans for 23 days and they have 19 days of wear on them. Fading is not obvious from the attatched pictures however up close the beginnings of fading is visible across the front of the top block and at the honeycombs. The exposed areas like belt loops and pocket corners are losing their indigo and the upper thigh and knee is starting to develop that electric blue sheen. In other words exactly the sort of thing you would expect from a three week old pair of 21oz Iron Hearts.

                        Fit wise though things are a little different to what happens with the standard 21oz. The honeycombs and whispers are now set although that took a little while. They have relaxed a little in general, but there is no bagging at the knee or around the booty. The waist has not stretched permanently. Basically stretch happens very slowly and recedes a little in between wears. The huge benefit of this is that they keep their shape remarkably well, while still being remarkably comfortable and easy to move in despite their slim dimensions.

                          They look great, Reuben. As usual, all of your thoughtful observations really add to my wanting to get my hands on a pair of these. Can’t wait until it’s available. Assuming it’s released in all the cuts, I think this might be perfect for me to finally do a 555, or size down in the 888.

                            Thank you very much, Ann. The great thing for me is exactly the fact that I can comfortably wear a cut that previously would have been too restrictive, prone to blow-outs and not all that flattering. I know this as my second ever pair of IH were the 555-01 in this exact size.

                            I believe Giles has said that these will be done in all cuts except for the 634. For me the 666 will be a must. To finally own a pair without a bigger than necessary waist, or one of the wider leg outliers would be very satisfactory.

                                  Starting measurements on the Shinayaka IH-555-SST are the same as my pair of IH-555-01 and the current IH-555-01 measurements. No more than 0.1-0.2” difference

                                          I did six hours of straight room stripping in them. Knocking through a wall, crow barring out plyboard and architraves and after woods pine flooring then carrying it all out to the skip. Not once did I feel restricted or uncomfortable and that in a pair of pants that are pretty snug on me.
