I'm a careworker in a home for disabled people. Cant stay home. Kindergartens closed for 5 weeks at least , so my 3yo stays home for that long, plus Corona means massive overtime for me. Normally the people i care for go to work from 8am to 4 pm, now we have to cover that time too. My wife does the same job.
Guess I'm done when all this is over.
I'd love to isolate, stay home, work on the house and stuff… but yeah. Hope we all get through this safe.

At least we are still allowed to go outside to the playground etc. Will do this now, sun is shining, 15°C, enjoy.
      Cheers

/edit Ok, playgrounds forbidden now. Garden will be ok I guess.

I love most over 70s who I've spoken to, including my parents. The almost unanimous response is 'fuck that for a laugh' and 'I've had a good innings'. Let's see Boris deal with that  😃

Seems like a strange attitude given a. it will be for their own safety and protection and b. all isolation/quarantine/social distancing is of benefit to the public health. If an older person with that attitude becomes sick they will be occupying a hospital bed that someone with a suppressed immune system and a desire to live a little longer could use. Then again it is a long time since solidarity has been an obvious quality of the British citizenry.

i might be an odd one in this situation so don't have a go at me.

i don't know if this belongs in a rant or this thread but having survived SARS and H1N1, this whole situation of lockdown is turning into huge joke. And not to mention being very close to the epicentre of both outbreaks. there's a very fine line between taking precautions and creating mass panic and paranoia.

don't get me wrong. steps have to be taken in order to ensure public health and safety. steps have to be taken to ensure one's personal hygiene. but given situations where i am, things seems to be more panic and hysteria rather than taking precautions. the bottom line is, everyone has a civic duty but at the same time, life has to go on.

A huge joke??? In Italy people are dying because their intensive care units are highly overloaded and doctors have to decided who gets intubation and who will die… sorry but no, there is no hysteria.

Precisely. It's not about us, about you and me, it's about our parents and grandparents. But we are the ones that help spreading the virus if we continue going to bars, restaurants, concerts…  meeting other people. Due to absence of symptoms a grand number of people even don't recognise that they carry the virus. And Italy is a country that generally has a well equipped health system...

You want well equipped. Look at Singapore, HK, Taiwan. Everything is under control. It’s too late for the countries that fucked up. But for those that are starting to see more cases, surely take a look at those countries above and follow what they’re doing.

I'd also like to point out that this doesn't have a binary outcome- either death or full recovery.  Data is showing that there may be long term aftereffects for survivors, like permanent lung damage.

Exactly. The govt’s concerned stopped normal life going on, civic duty didn’t even come into it.

Let’s all show some common sense and restraint. Telling people their countries are «fucked» is uncool and likely to upset others. Respectful discussion and an appropriate tone please, ladies and gents. This is serious business.

I live in MN, USA and I think the US took too long to act. The fact that we have such a focus on freedom to do as we wish here has probably prolonged our controlling of the virus. If our govt. said "stay inside for 2 weeks or be arrested" we could have gotten this thing slowed down faster (obviously that wouldn't happen).

On top of that, our country is so large that so many places thought the virus was simply "somewhere else" and not something our area had to worry about. Now it's too late for a lot of affected areas and we are looking at schools being closed for the rest of the year, sports cancellations and the american people's lives upended.

currently a chef working from home for the next few weeks at least. I'm lucky that my job is small and we are all safe and protected employment wise from this thing.
