Coronavirus (Covid-19) Discussion

Buying TP may make you feel some level of control.
Diarrhea is one of the secondary symptoms. If you are with your family and all in self-isolation for two weeks because of the runs (God forbids), TP can quickly be depleted. Of course, you can always take a shower. -
@JDelage that is brilliant. It's the sort of social responsibility we should all be exhibiting.

If work shuts down I have money for about 3 months then I’m Fucked but if they halt trading then I can’t even access it. Wasn’t reAlly worried until now

Fuck. The UK Government's press conference just announced some of the anticipated plans. Again, frustratingly restricted from disclosing, but more is on the way next week.
Please everyone, have the sense not to let this affect your mindset once this passes. There is a risk that this will impact society as much as, or on some level, more than WWII.
The finance industry will be legislated and regulated, legislation to restrict movement more widely in future.
Let's not live in fear or terror, and remember to care about each other.

Forget the loo roll…

On a weekly wfh rota as of tomorrow, though being a social worker, that is just not tenable in the longer term.
It is concerning that in the next couple of weeks the full powers of the UK state are likely to kick in once emergency legislation is in place. The thing with emergency legislation is that it is never revoked. We still have 'emergency' taxation legislation that was introduced during WWII in the UK that hasn't been revoked.
Everyone aged 70 and over will be required to self isolate, and it is anticipated that the police will be given powers of arrest for anyone in breach.
I love most over 70s who I've spoken to, including my parents. The almost unanimous response is 'fuck that for a laugh' and 'I've had a good innings'. Let's see Boris deal with that

I'm a careworker in a home for disabled people. Cant stay home. Kindergartens closed for 5 weeks at least , so my 3yo stays home for that long, plus Corona means massive overtime for me. Normally the people i care for go to work from 8am to 4 pm, now we have to cover that time too. My wife does the same job.
Guess I'm done when all this is over.
I'd love to isolate, stay home, work on the house and stuff… but yeah. Hope we all get through this safe.At least we are still allowed to go outside to the playground etc. Will do this now, sun is shining, 15°C, enjoy.
Cheers/edit Ok, playgrounds forbidden now. Garden will be ok I guess.

Seems like a strange attitude given a. it will be for their own safety and protection and b. all isolation/quarantine/social distancing is of benefit to the public health. If an older person with that attitude becomes sick they will be occupying a hospital bed that someone with a suppressed immune system and a desire to live a little longer could use. Then again it is a long time since solidarity has been an obvious quality of the British citizenry.

i might be an odd one in this situation so don't have a go at me.
i don't know if this belongs in a rant or this thread but having survived SARS and H1N1, this whole situation of lockdown is turning into huge joke. And not to mention being very close to the epicentre of both outbreaks. there's a very fine line between taking precautions and creating mass panic and paranoia.
don't get me wrong. steps have to be taken in order to ensure public health and safety. steps have to be taken to ensure one's personal hygiene. but given situations where i am, things seems to be more panic and hysteria rather than taking precautions. the bottom line is, everyone has a civic duty but at the same time, life has to go on.

A huge joke??? In Italy people are dying because their intensive care units are highly overloaded and doctors have to decided who gets intubation and who will die… sorry but no, there is no hysteria.

That’s the issue. The amount of beds and equipment needed versus amount of infected. State of NYwill
Have a deficit of 10k-100k beds. Meaning that’s how Many people could possibly go without proper care. The elderly and infirm are at risk. It’s a necessary precaution to isolate. Not that you will die but what if you pass it
To your grandmother or 10 week old son? @Chap is right. -

To your grandmother or 10 week old son? @Chap is right.Precisely. It's not about us, about you and me, it's about our parents and grandparents. But we are the ones that help spreading the virus if we continue going to bars, restaurants, concerts… meeting other people. Due to absence of symptoms a grand number of people even don't recognise that they carry the virus. And Italy is a country that generally has a well equipped health system...
-
You want well equipped. Look at Singapore, HK, Taiwan. Everything is under control. It’s too late for the countries that fucked up. But for those that are starting to see more cases, surely take a look at those countries above and follow what they’re doing.

Those countries and cities are all full of the ultra wealthy

I'd also like to point out that this doesn't have a binary outcome- either death or full recovery. Data is showing that there may be long term aftereffects for survivors, like permanent lung damage.
