    @Kasi:

    Get yourself 25oz pair of jeans, you will know how it feel wearing against light jeans.

    He already has a pair of these (and countless others), he was just asking the guys' insights regarding denim durability and how its related to fabric weight.

      Simply.  All other things being equal, the heavier the denim the more durable it will be.  The quality of the cotton and the length of the cotton staple are also significant factors as too is the tightness of the weave.

      Our double twisted yarn denims are stronger than the same weight denim constructed from a single weft, this is because the twisted weft makes the denim more supple, so there is less stress in the folds, whiskers, combs etc.

      Of course, I am biased, but our 14oz denim is one of the most (if not the most) durable "lighter" weight denim I have ever worn.  I am extremely tough on jeans and I wore my 14oz 666 almost every day for a year, I have retired them now, but they still have heaps of life left.

      The one counter-intuitive thing is that if you are prone to crotch blows outs (I'm not) because of your physiology, you are more likely to blow the crotch on heavier (thicker) denim, because the friction is increased due to the thicker denim.

      As a final thought, Haraki is extremely dismissive of other companies that make "heavy ounce" denim.  He designs our denim to be a good as he can make them, he truly believes that others have jumped on the (his) heavy ounce bandwagon and just increase the weight of the weft and/or the warp with little understanding of what they are actually doing…...

        May be biased, but that doesn't make you wrong. My 14oz OD are early in their journey, but they are tough as nails.

        Think it, be it.

          Once I finish in my 888NT’s I am going to put the 14oz to test by getting a pair for work.

            I'm wearing my 25s right now!  😃 They're great jeans, and it's awesome to see some thoughts on the matter!

              Thanks @Giles ! That's interesting re the crotch blowouts. That is usually the second place to tear for me, shortly after the fabric right beneath the back right pocket (thanks, cell phone…). I've always attributed it to just keeping my jeans on the tighter side.

              I agree with the thoughts on other heavy weight denim from other brands. I'd always thought of the super heavy stuff from other brands as gimmicky -- those 32 oz from Naked and Famous seemed pretty notorious for not being very durable, for example -- but a friend of mine with 25 oz IH jeans sold me on the idea of them a year back. I like the 555 enough that I don't really want to go with any other fits in the future, so I was super glad when these got announced. 🙂

                    Haven’t posted fit pics because,while the waist is perfect,the thighs were disproportionately large for me and on the big side for 555s.  I felt like I was swimming 🏊 in them.Decided to let a really good local tailor take them in for me. He’s European/old school really knows his craft. Charges $30. I get them back Saturday.  Fingers crossed. Rail car wouldn’t work on them.
