IHSH-211 - 17oz Duck CPO Style Shirt - Brown

Has anyone ever tried to use Otterwax or the like on Iron Heart's duck fabric? I have used it on an old Pointer chore coat. It looked amazing. Wondering what might happen with IH gear.
Duck canvas in general takes wax very well. It was the original waxed fabric seeing as it was used for making sails. Waxing was used so the sails would give greater wind resistance making them more effective. Old sails were then cut up to make waterproof clothing, headgear etc.
The relatively flat, even face of duck canvas means the wax takes to the fabric in a pleasing way. Waxing slubby denim for example, while having a waterproofing effect is going to look like a dogs dinner.
I’ve seen IH duck that has been waxed on the threads here from back in the day, but I can’t remember from when or where. Use the search function and you should find something.

Just ordered one of these this morning. I always liked the idea of the pockets on the shirt and have been looking at the denim one for a couple years. I couldn’t justify yet another denim shirt so when I saw this one I had to go for it.

@Paul9221 thank you, I think I could have worn this combo with 8 inch neon pink stilleto heals and it would still look good! Duck and denim is just a match made in heaven. This is a great shirt/jacket.
Ive kept my beard shorter this past few months so I can trim it myself. Life cursed me with a good beard growth but a crappy hairline!

StuartT’s beard is epic. I shaved mine off because It looked horrible on me and I didn’t exactly have decent growth.

I just tried one of the last two mediums left in stock as the chest measurement lined up well with type iii’s that I own, but alas this shirt is far too snug in the shoulders and arms for me. I really wanted to get in on this shirt before it’s gone, oh well.
Though I’d prefer a large, I do have a chance to buy an XL secondhand, how are other folks finding that fits for them? I’m 6’, 175 lbs with a 43” chest. I compared my vitals to those of Giles and Adam so I suppose I could go with an XL, the chest measurement on this shirt just seems so much larger than anything else I own. Anyone out there with a chest measurement similar to mine rocking an XL and digging it?

@dreigh I'm 6ft 1" with a 41" measured chest and weigh 200 pounds and went with the XL and I'm very happy with the fit. Fit is of course a very personal thing but I like to have somewhere between 4 and 5" in tolerance around the chest so would have found the Large a bit too snug for my liking. I tend to wear the IHSH-211 over a t-shirt or thermal, which the XL allows for. FWIW, I have stuck to my usual size in this shirt as I have done in previous CPO and Western purchases.

@robm Thanks so much for your reply! Good to know that the XL works for your chest size, sounds like it ought to work for me then. I do plan on wearing thermals/sweaters under this CPO, hopefully the fit will be right with that. The 22" bottom opening is a bit wider than I am used to, but if it's an issue I may just have the XL tapered in a bit. Either that, or a hot machine wash and machine dry to see if I can squeeze a bit more shrink out of the fabric.
It's settled, I'm buying that XL, fingers crossed!

@dreigh I wish I would have seen this yesterday! I am the one who sold it to you on Grailed. This was a tad small on me, hence the reason I sold it. I am the same height as you and about 10 -15 pounds heavier. You should be good in terms of sizing, I'd suspect. I'd imagine a large would be too small on you. Just assuming, of course.

My chest is a good bit bigger than my waist, by about 9” total. As such, I have a great fit in the chest, but more fabric in the opening than I would like. I may take it in for tapering through the body. Then again, if a boxier fit is the intent I may find the will to not tinker with the fit.
What to y’all think?
