Am I reading this correctly that the navy lacks side seams in all sizes?  Might be my first IH t shirt…

Yes. The navy one is based on the 7.5 oz Shitamachi body with no side seams on all sizes whereas the grey one is based on the IHT-1610 with side seams on XL & XXL.

I’ve never really done any tshirt measuring. I’m a S in all other IH shirts. Is it safe to assume S is the way to go here?

Depends how you want it to fit. But if you use S in IH shirts then you don’t want more than that with this tee. Go S for standard fit and XS (if such a thing exists) for a more fitted look.

My pleasure. One thing I should have mentioned, do keep your eye on length measurements. If you’re tall these may come  up a little short. Again, some people prefer that.

One more thing, and I apologise for being messy in my answers, but I’ve assumed you’re talking about the navy. I don’t know why I did that. The material and cut of the grey is different to the navy. You may want to consider an M in the grey. It is based on the IHT-1610 and they come up a little smaller.

To give you the full picture I take XL in most shirts and like my tees short and fitted. I go for M in the 7.5oz tees and L in the 1610, 6oz bodies. If I wanted a more relaxed fit then it would be L and XL respectively.

I have a defective one from the Outlet in my stack 😉 I feel like the hand of IH Shitamachi tees is unmatched. And I don't see that in the product description, so @Alex or @Giles (or whomever from the crew), is the 6.5oz similar to the 7.5oz I so love?

@mclaincausey  within the admittedly narrow bracket of tee shirt fabrics, they are quite different.

The 6.5oz has a looser weave, a smoother more machined hand, is much more stretchy, and feels lighter than the 1oz of difference would suggest.

They are very comfortable to wear, but not as gnarly or «present» as the 7.5oz, which I share your love for.
