@tinmar If you've managed to get into the jeans, tackled the buttons and they are tight in the waist then you've made it as the denim will relax a bit over time. Enjoy and welcome to the forum  🙂

At the end of the day regardless of how good we all think the jeans fit you,and how good we think they look on you,if you’re not comfortable your not going to wear them. May be there’s another pair of 31s with a slightly bigger waist that you’d be more comfortable with. Just a thought.

Anyone put these in a dryer? How does that work out?
I’m tempted because these things take long to dry and I don’t know where to hang them.

I don't have the 888 cut in XHS,but I put all my other XHS denim in the drier all the time. The denim tightens up a little bit,but not unwearable. Like if you had a big meal.

I put all my jeans in the dryer. They’ll be fine. As long as you can tolerate a tightening of 1/4” or so that will stretch back out in half a day, you’ll be fine.

I'm always nervous throwing them into the dryer, but I have a lot of sunshine in California to dry them quickly.

Are you guys turning them inside out before tossing them in the dryer?

                    Blanket-line all the things!!!

If they were inside out during the wash it’s kind of hard to turn XHS back out when they’re still wet.

I leave them inside out until they’re dry. Though some shrinkage happens in the dryer, I’m pretty sure indigo loss will all happen in the wash. Hence why they’re inside out and soaked through before the go in there.

The knees are super faded for some reason. I’m guessing dragging them on carpet whoops..

Question for the 25 oz wearers.  I have a pair of 888S-21 that fit perfect, but if the temperature dips below 40 degrees fahrenheit they aren't warm enough.  I am thinking of getting a pair of 888S in 25oz for the colder temperatures in Tennessee.  Is there a material difference in warmth between the 21oz and 25oz that would merit buying a new pair just for winter?

@Nashville60 In my opinion, yes.  I wear 16oz-Slubs and 18oz vintage during the summer, 21oz in the spring and fall, and 25oz in the winter.  The best pants I have for really cold and windy days are the whipcord cargos.

…and to add.  We have plenty of members who wear all of the jeans I’ve listed year round in what I would consider extreme conditions (hot, humid, cold, and dry).

@Nashville60 I agreed with Dennis to a point. The whipcord cargos are far superior to any standalone denim I have for warmth and wind resistance. I don't think you'll get as noticeable of a difference as you hope when increasing 21 to 25 oz. I own the 888xhs and while they are warm, they are nothing compared to the cargos, or a merino wool base layer under denim (I ride horses all winter long in Minnesota in jeans with a merino wool base layer).

My take: Whipcord cargos are very good for cold days. XHS isn't "warm" in the sense that it is not a very textured/fuzzy denim. But it is much more wind resistant than 21oz. The parts of the jeans that are taut and in direct contact with your skin will feel no warmer in XHS compared to 21oz. But for the parts that are looser fitting, or not in direct contact (below the knees) the wind resistance of XHS helps a lot.

Thank you @goosehd @jordanscollected @Mike_Lima_Papa for the responses!

I have been wearing some light merino wool leggings underneath that get the job done, it just gets a little tight in the fit department.  I definitely feel the wind when it's chilly so it sounds like the 25 oz might help in that department, but overall warmth probably wouldn't be better than my 21 oz pair with leggings underneath.  Decisions decisions 🙂

For those that own both the 21 and 25 oz in 888, is the fit and stretch similar?  If I'm a size 32 in the 888S-21 should I go for a 32 in the 8883-XHS?

@Nashville60 hey man!! Welcome to the slope!! Gets a little slippery round these parts!! I have the 888 in 21oz and 25oz XHS. First off, the heft of the 25oz is just so damn incredible. I do think it adds a bit of warmth. I live in Colorado and we get down to sub zero at times. 25oz is not going to make it feel like you’re wearing thermals or anything compared to 21oz. But there is a touch more wind and warmth retention in my experience. I spend a lot of time hiking and outdoors in the winter and wear my 25oz all the time. On the really cold 5 degrees or below, I’ll put some long Johns on under. Love em!

All that being said, I love my 21oz. But it’s hard to wear them when I know my 25ozers are calling my name. The heft and weight of the fabric just gets me all hot and bothered. Even when it’s all hot and bothersome outside. Then July comes and I give  up and give my pasty legs some sun.
