So i just came back from my first 200km ride with this jacket in 10c weather and i have to say i am impressed.
It is a bit too A shaped for me (a bit tight in the shoulders and a bit loose at the waist) but in use it isn't a problem.
The jacket is super slippery and it fits really well underneath a leather jacket. No binding, no thick seams in the shoulders, no bunching anywhere, it really disappears underneath your riding jacket.
The wrist knits create a really good seal, once i zipped up the wrist zippers of my leather jacket above them no air was coming in through the wrists even at motorway speeds.
The collar is really nice, it really seals well with the helmet and i never had a cold neck. The knit in the back of the neck is nice against drafts.
The elastic at the bottom hem is a nice touch, i had no air coming up from my waist at all. This jacket is 0.5" longer than my leather jacket so i barely have any overhang, it looks good.
I like that the edge of the bottom hem is doubled with a thick fabric, it looks like it will last a long time even if used heavily.
It is really fully windproof, even at motorway speed with my leather jacket zipped halfway i couldn't feel any wind going through the nylon shell.
All in all i wouldn't really change a thing, it is a good design, it feels like quality and it kept me warmer on the bike than anything else i have worn before. I am confident i could go down to freezing temps and still be warm enough.
It also feels sturdy enough not to worry about damaging it. Just shove it in the paniers and go…

My only issue with it is the price, it feels stupid spending that mych money on a bit of nylon and plastic knowing i could buy a Vanson for that amount, but i guess that comes with the brand...
If you are looking for a "regular jacket" i think it is hard to justify that price over a cheaper brand like NorthFace or Patagonia, but if you need the motorcycle specific characteristics of that design i think it is worth the asking price.

@Carlos840 what a great review. Thanks so much for that. I’ll be picking mine up on Monday, and was already looking forward to it. Now I’m downright excited.

It will be tested out in sub-zero temps soon enough, although I’m planning on wearing a whipcord/Alpaca vest over it too. It gets down to -15C where I live.

As for price, made in Japan stuff costs, for a number of reasons…

Wow neph93 ! Congrats!
It is an amazing jacket. I wrote before on the IHJ-38 thread years ago, how much amazing this jacket is.

This is an AMAZING jacket, Reuben.  You're gonna love it!  I wasn't really into the diamond quilted jackets before getting this one.

400km of twisties in 6 hours today, temps ranging from 8c to 12c, i never felt uncomfortable, i really like this riding jacket.
I think the best thing i can say about it is that i never even think about it, it's a comfortable pattern and it regulates temperature really well. I just put it on and forget about it.
Very happy with it.

Never a truer word spoken. It was bizarre to pick up a package from Gosport, bulky and stuffed like they normally are, only for it to weigh almost nothing. It was like picking up a realistic prop stone made of foam.

Even more strange was unpacking it. In hand it is undoubtedly IH. The quality of the construction is obvious. The detail and unity of form of and function really do deserve to be called «engineering».

Putting it on, the paradox was complete. That something so light can be so robust and well made, and so damn warm, simply doesn’t make sense. Winter can come, I’m ready.

Are the only differences between this and the IHJ-38 the zipper pulls and the pointed flap on the hip pockets?

@neph93 I’m excited you picked this up!  Is the XL just right?  No way I can swing it this season but it’s at the top of my list for ‘22.

I’m excited to start wearing it.

I was considering the L, but that would have been a mistake. I can wear the XL over either one or two layers and in addition, the L would have been too short.

Shout out to @Graham for going to great lengths to demonstrate the fit of the two sizes for me.

Glad the sizing worked out. I think large is the call for me when the time comes. Im amazed at how far the technology of insulation has come since the early days of synthetic. PrimaLoft Gold paired with IH quality and design… perfect.

@neph93 Sincerest apologies for not chiming in on this sooner.  You will find that this jacket is indispensable for your/my climate.  I use it alone for those weird days (cold, clammy) or biting cold ones for layering (N1 Vests and Jackets) from fall - spring.  The high collar and fitted cuffs keep the cold and snow out.

It is probably my number one layering piece of IH that I own.  It looks good on it's own which is also a huge plus in my books.

Glad to see that you picked one up!!

Perhaps in the dark khaki from the IHJ-100-KHA next FW?  😛

I’ve been wondering if you guys think a drawstring at the hem would be useful on this jacket or just an unnecessary expense?

Can’t say I’ve felt the need for one. My XL is just around shirt length on me so I feel like the risky area at waist level is well covered.

I can't imagine, anyone riding in that jacket wanting a draw string hanging down or flapping around.
