Also, if I’m not mistaken, VAERS is based on self-reported “adverse effects” which of course include the body-aches, fever, soreness etc. that are widely reported.
Also, I’m not sure where your stats came from, but here’s a quote from CDC:
“Reports of death after COVID-19 vaccination are rare. More than 334 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the United States from December 14, 2020, through July 12, 2021. During this time, VAERS received 6,079 reports of death (0.0018%) among people who received a COVID-19 vaccine. FDA requires healthcare providers to report any death after COVID-19 vaccination to VAERS, even if it’s unclear whether the vaccine was the cause. Reports of adverse events to VAERS following vaccination, including deaths, do not necessarily mean that a vaccine caused a health problem. A review of available clinical information, including death certificates, autopsy, and medical records, has not established a causal link to COVID-19 vaccines.”

Yep, echoing what many have said here, the potential side effects for me were way less of a worry than what I could run into actually contracting covid.
I'm 41, run several times a week, do yoga, and don't drink, so I wasn't particularly worried about being one of those unfortunate people who'd have to be hospitalized from acute symptoms. That said, you never know! The main thing was that I worried about the long term side effects after contracting Covid. I personally know three young, healthy people who had at the very bad things happen to them after contracting it. One was asymptomatic (literally had no idea he'd had it) but had horrible leg pain only to find out that he had massive clots in his legs and lungs. Another friend got it and had mild, manageable symptoms, but suffered a similar situation afterwards — pain, had to go to the ER, had massive clots, is now on blood thinners for a while and is being monitored. One less fortunate friend of my ex-girlfriend was a marathon runner in perfect health. Had a stroke, lived alone and sadly wasn't found until there was significant damage. She made it but has a long recovery ahead of her.
So, TLDR: potential covid grey area scared the shit out of me, so I was like "gimme the damn shot now."

…had what they call COVID-19 back in June/July of last year. Kept a diary of the events that lasted 7 days though I was isolated in the house for 10. First 3 days felt like I was beaten with telephone books, muscular aches that were truly rough then tapering off with odd aches migrating around the body until day 7 when I felt like I had it licked. Thats when I had explosive sneezes which after thinking about it had me believing that's this virus knew I had it beat and was looking for a new host. Diabolical.
...never had a fever and never had any lung issues (it effects everyone differently). To be honest I've had food poisoning that was worse and I know close to a dozen folks who had it and survived, ( 99.8 % survivability rate ). I know a retired fireman who had heart inflammation after his innoculation but just one.
...I won't stick my head in the sand, and continue be very curious to see where this ends up next, new info all the time with obviously more to come as time passes.
...can't help but feel that from start to finish we're being f#*$ked with by a very sophisticated pack of grifters that have some kind of planned outcome. :o

I’m so thankful to have been vaccinated. I love science! It’s really sad how many people have bought into antivax disinformation campaigns. If they were around at the time of polio and measles I’m sure we’d still be struggling with those viruses too.

They're talking about this Lambda variant. Virologists are saying it will be more adept at infecting young children which is fairly scary. There is a part of me that believes we are going to be stuck with this virus for quite some time and I'm not sure exactly what to do with that idea. It's the type of shit that wakes you up in the middle of the night; glad I grew up when I did (which is such an old man thing to say) but also sad that my nephew and niece won't grow up in a similar world. They're inheriting a much scarier world I'm afraid.

My mother (62, no significant health issues) died from Covid in January. A slight cough turned into pneumonia and ultimately she had to be put on a ventilator. We weren‘t allowed to visit her until they pretty much knew she was going to die within the next few hours. It was horrible being in this glas box with her wearing full armour and I was only allowed to hold her hand with gloves on. She died that same day.
I‘m by no means an expert on this topic but I‘m convinced the vaccine would have saved her life. Make sure your loved ones get it!

I personally lost 3 dear friends to Covid this past year. Two were older friends, the third was 30 and a pilot with Avianca Airlines. Each story was as devastating as what G described. I also have had some close friends that have lost loved ones to Covid. It's like others have said, a no brainer to get the vaccine. I had the Moderna vaccines and had the 2nd shot symptoms. I still maintain safety precautions, and will gladly take a 3rd shot when advised. What makes me have bad dreams is that this disease mutates as it continues, and will get worse. It was the UK variant 6 months ago, now the delta variant. What's next?

The mutations are exactly what puts me off having the vaccine at the moment. It just feels like it has been rushed and we are signing ourselves up to a yearly vaccine. I know people will say actually it’s been in the works for years and because of the pandemic it has suddenly been worked on collectively etc. But to me it feels rushed. I also don’t like the idea that the pharma companies have been cleared of any responsibilities if there is any problems.
This pandemic has been a different experience for everyone I believe. Some people have lost loved ones so their view is different to mine for example who thankfully hasn’t experienced this. People have also been locked away watching the frankly appalling news coverage which has left them in a massive state of fear.

I’m not in a position to weigh in to heavily because my experience with Covid is essentially non existent. I’ve had a few family members that have contracted it and thankfully they were all fine within a few weeks.
Beyond that, I got “stranded” in New Zealand at the onset. So again, my perspective is quite different than most.

Mutations will continue to happen as long as there is viral spread in the population. Viruses can’t mutate if they don’t have new hosts. Getting vaccinated now is the only way to prevent the rise of more variants.
Also, just like the flu, we are in for a yearly shot, no matter what. This isn’t going away. The genie is out of the bottle.

I agree @sabergirl We have flu jabs in UK annually, but I was unsure about The US, so I chose to keep quiet and not risk promoting my ignorance….

The one reassuring thing about an annual vaccine is that (for now) it appears attacking the outer shell is working against every variant. What’s reassuring about it is that if we could have some type of pharmaceutical transparency act that guarantees an unaltered and safe product, we wouldn’t have to worry about what’s in the latest vaccine. With a lack of changing parts, we could run less of a chance of messing it up.

I don't have that shot either. Had flu once in my life 20 years ago and yes it sucked and I didn't get out of bed for 2 weeks but I am still not having a vaccine yearly for it.
