@Appfaff I had precisely the same notion.  As you know those are big out here and we generally look down our noses at them due to how aggressively the erode the landscape, but my man chromosomes just want to haul ass.

Yet another unsolvable mystery of the wild American frontier.

                    Some fun facts:

                    -The “sand” is gypsum.
-The animals that live here are the same as those just outside the park but these have all evolved to be white.
-People, on average, eat about 30 ponds of gypsum on a lifetime.
-National Park sand gets all up in your underwear every bit as much as beach sand.

Man I love the desert. If y’all get up north, we really loved Taos, Cimarron Canyon, and the surrounding areas up there. We went during shoulder season so Taos was quietly beautiful and a great retreat and recharge. Had a northern NM blue corn adobada enchilada that inspires me to this day.

Then, speaking of tunnels, we never got there yet but want to explore Valles Caldera and the Gilman Tunnels. Might be a fun loop for your family to take that route and loop through Santa Fe. Bet the kids (and adult kids) would enjoy the Meow Wolf museum. One is opening here in Denver soon and we can hardly wait!

                            Think it, be it.

All that stuff is on our radar.  So much to take in here.  We’re going to see Japanese Breakfast at Meow Wolf without the kids.  We’ll take them there eventually.

Here’s lunch.  Sturgill is killing it on the radio…

Today’s hike was the Devil’s Hall Trail.  The girls did well for a 4.5 miler under a hot sun with plenty of large flies and some rock scrambling.

Is that what the flying thing is on the left of the 3rd image?
