This is a The Barn brazilian single. Taste is great but I don’t get any noteworthy crema with single roasts… any idea/advice?

I don't have much experience pulling singles, but it might be that your puck is not allowing enough back pressure to build. Maybe grind finer or distribute the grounds in the filter better?

That said, my advice on crema: if the shot tastes good, don't overthink it. Crema tastes awful, anyway. Try skimming it off with a spoon and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks for that input @Mike_Lima_Papa I tried different grinder adjustments but you are right, the puck gives less back pressure with singles then with robusto blends, taste is fine nevertheless

I believe I misunderstood what you meant by "singles". I thought you meant "single shots" (i.e. ~9g of coffee per shot) but you meant single origin coffees.

SO's generally have higher density, giving them a lower total surface area per gram from which to extract goodness. I normally compensate by grinding finer, but you can also add more coffee if there's enough room in your filter basket. Let your taste buds guide you  🙂
