hell yes! @mclaincausey. I love Lyrics born and Chali2na.

A couple years back when my wife and I went to New Orleans it just so happened LB & C2na were playing at Tipitinas like a half mile from our Air bnb. My wife didn't feel good so i went solo.

at 3:33 of this video I'm on the very left of the screen rocking my 25oz xhs vest, fairy tipsy but not wasted like the guy to right of me. He was annoying as F*ck the entire show.

        world tours:

        Mad Red x2

I found out about LB when he was touring with Galactic. I think it was Cabooze in MPLS. Another Galactic tie in, was supposed to see Chali2na with Galactic when we moved to LA for 6 weeks before COVID scuttled our trip. Got to see him up close and personal at a J5 show at Red Rocks. He’s a great photographer and painter in addition to the mic skills.

One more Galactic tie in: Erica Falls has recorded and toured with them too.

I was admiring how soft an suedey the slub denim feels today and I immediately thought of this song. IDK why but I made the connection and now I have had this song stuck in my head for several hours  😉

Love them too, @Jett129 , and Jon Bonham, and thus Led Zeppelin, owe Carmine Appice a massive debt. Not to take away from Jon, but he would not have had that big sound without having been inspired by Carmine.

It was Carmine, who was then sponsored by the Ludwig Drum Compan, that told them that they have to see this guy,and was instrumental in getting Bonham the big bass drum that became his signature, and such an important part of his look and sound. But it was Dino Danelli who was the first to use such a prominent bass drum sound in(and you could argue this) Lonely Too Long.

When I think big bass drum pioneers, Chick Webb comes to mind. I am sure there are other examples, but I remember as a kid seeing that big thing and then hearing it. His was 28", which I think is 2" larger than Bonham's ever got, and this was in the 20s-30s.

To hear Carmine tell it, Bonham told him he was an influence, and he didn't even know what Bonham was talking about (also gets into what you were talking about @Jett129 ) : https://blabbermouth.net/news/carmine-appice-john-bonham-told-me-i-was-one-of-his-influences

That’s the age old story, but I can’t believe he never mentions Dino Danelli (Also sponsored by Ludwig)who was doing it 2 years before him,and they were playing the same clubs on Long Island. As much as I liked The Vanilla Fudge,I always thought that they were just a souped up version of The Rascals. First time I saw Led Zeppelin they opened up for The Iron Butterfly.

Took my niece to see The Shins, her favorite band, at Red Rocks touring in honor of the 29th anniversary of their album “Oh, Inverted World.” They played that album through and got to as many songs as they could before lightning scuttled the encore. Great show, great players. Loved the drummer, who is also in James Mercer’s (who effectively IS the Shins) and Danger Mouse’s project Broken Bells. He had a great, effortless groove and a very deep snare sound that was cool.

We had GA tickets and I didn’t realize until we were in line that GA started at row 39. That’s too far back at Red Rocks, as the sound becomes unpredictable and subject to the whims of the weather. You do get great views up top though. So I got us a choice spot on one of the planters, which are always considered GA. Between the stage and Ship Rock, we could see a thunderstorm in the distance. So it was a dramatic setting but also a great view of the stage and band. It was both of our first Shins gig, and the album is older than she is, and she’s been listening to it since she was in the womb. I listened to it a bunch back in the day and it was good to rediscover it.

I sure did. Tonight in Duesseldorf, Germany. A smaller club, and an awesome show. I stayed away from the larger venues over the last years, but I am really glad I went tonight.
