I’m going to share something here that I shared with @goosehd in pm yesterday. Many of you may be familiar with The Hold Steady and their singer/lyricist Craig Finn. He has a few maxims I’ve always liked but I’ve increasingly come to believe are rules for life.
Hold steady, stay positive, be honest. We all want the same things.

The sad reality is that substantial number of humans want to deprive others of the "same things" that they would like to reserve for themselves.

What's more fundamental than reproduction? Or peaceful coexistence?
As for love, what about people who don't want grown adults to be able to be with the person whom they love if they are the same sex, and enjoy benefits the rest of us enjoy such as visitation rights? Nobody gets a plaudit from me just because they love someone, or are loved by someone–empathy and demonstrating that the same is respected in others whom they might see little in common with is what will carry that beyond their sphere and make it meaningful to me.
Perhaps I woke on the wrong side of the bed but this all sounds like a sanguine take relative to what I'm witnessing and expecting to witness.

I think the only way we can truly reach peaceful coexistence is continuing to take a step at a time even through adversity. Life sucks, it's hard, blah, blah, blah…we may not be able to change the world in a day, but we can try to make it a little better for the next generation.
Hell...Rosa Parks just set in the front of the bus and look what happened...maybe we can too!

It ain't work, Matt… I know you didn't mean it that way either but... It's truly the massive passion and force I've kept from growing up with hc and punk music... And growing up with brown lads... The fucking shit they had to go through on a daily basis... Something I remember very vividly: a supermarket cashier who didn't want to accept Rachid's money in her hand... That's a lad's pride fucked with... Fucking hardest working fellow I've ever met to boot...
I am now 25 years older, and have beautiful POC family... Half-Morrocan and half-Iranian... I was always pretty diplomatic, calm, reserved,... But now I feel like I've just come to the point where I cannae accept any of this shit anymore... All of these beautiful young folk fucked with cause they're brown, have big hair, have names dumb folk can't pronounce... Fuck off... I'll throw my white fat arse in the fucking mayhem...
