thanks for sending @Anesthetist Matt. At least we know the thought has come up before.

While I'm here, I have my MTG on today. It would be awesome to have Iron Heart etched in the metal case

        @the246guy:

Is there anyone here having some experience with the Omega Seamaster AT or the Speedmaster? I'm planning to get either one of these in the 38 mm version and would like to have some ideas on the movements between the two. Both have a Co-Axial movement, but are quite different. Any clues?

@the246guy the 38 mm Speedmaster uses one of Omega's standard co-axial movements, whereas the Seamaster Aqua Terra has a Master Chronometer rated co-axial movement.

A Master Chronometer movement is certified by METAS to be basically impervious to magnetism and is slightly more accurate than a regular chronometer. Omega have a web page if you want all the technical details.

If I was getting an Omega, I'd be after a Master Chronometer rated watch, largely for their anti-magnetic properties. It's something of a USP, although Tudor released a very cool version of the Black Bay last year that meets the same standards.

The 42 mm Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch was upgraded last year with a new movement that is Master Chronometer certified. It's also the classic design, so it might be worth seeing if you can get away with the bigger case. Unlike the 38 mm version, and the AT, it's got a manual winding movement, so you need to wind it up every day or two.

There's also the recently unveiled Speedmaster '57, which has a 40.5 mm case size, so roughly between the other two models, and a manual wind master chronometer movement. If you find the regular Speedy too big, this might fit your wrist better.

Omega and Swatch have collaborated on the Speedmaster MoonSwatch.

They have a ceramic case and quartz chronograph movement, and come in a variety of colours, and will cost around $260. They're available "in selected Swatch stores" from Saturday.

More details from the Speedmaster fanatics at Fratello Watches or Swatch.

I’ve never messed with the watch threads because I stopped wearing watches when cell phones became more omnipresent.  I’ve had my Nixon watches from 2000 up on the B&S thread a few times and was basically giving them away but lately I’ve been enjoying them.  Now I’m looking at new watches again like that MoonSwatch.  I think I’ll stay in the Less Intimidating Watch Thread though.

Here’s my 22 year old Nixon Super Hero SS.  Going strong still…

I just picked up an h-link for my 556a.

@__Nicholas  Holy smokes, that's a gorgeous watch. You really cannot beat the value that Siinn crams into their watches. Anti shock, anti magnetic, 200M water resistance, double sapphire crystal (front and back), regulated upgraded movement that's chronometer grade (although not actually certified as such, but mine is running +/-1 second per day), and hacking and hand winding. Those features alone would make any other watch well above my reach, but Sinn manages to get it done for a fairly reasonable price.

Also, I'm so glad you got the H-link bracelet. That thing is absolutely solid and gorgeous. It's so well built and tough as nails. One thing you might not know is that you need to lock-tite the little hex screws. It's in the manual, but since you just got your bracelet, I wanted to let you know. Congrats! Such a great piece!

@seawolf Oh yeah I definitely used some blue loctite on those bolts before I sized the bracelet. I appreciate the heads up though!

It really is a great value for the price and I love the simplicity and legibility. Mine has been running at +3 seconds which I'm happy with.

Glad to hear it! It's insane how accurate they've made those movements. Mine runs pretty consistently at +1 sec per day which is just incredible for a watch in this price range.

A friend of mine has a Grand Seiko, and in the manual, it says that if it's running a little fast, you can leave it on your nightstand leaning on its crown, and if it's running slow lean it on the other side (I might have those mixed up, but that's the general idea).
