Eyeglasses / Sunglasses Discussion

Looks killer @Paul9221 !
I was eyeing a pair of Yves recently too. I’ve been sporting Torinos as prescription eyeglasses and a pair of Enzos as sunnies. The heft of JMM frames takes some getting used to and I had to have my pairs adjusted a couple times to get them to comfortably fit my big head.
Rock on, man! I was eyeing the Torinos, too! Now I gotta find some of your posts to see how they look on ya
The fit is extremely comfortable for me, but I've only had to wear them for an hour straight so far. I'm really happy with them and, while I hope I don't have to buy another pair for a while, I would absolutely get another pair of JMMs in the future.
-
@Paul9221 the Yves look good. They might appear a little bit big in the photos as the wide angle phone camera exaggerates the size. If you have any concerns, ask a friendly optician to look them over.
That said, they look to be an oversized design from the pictures on the JMM website.
I've got a pair of the JMM Amboise on their way to me at the moment. I'd been dithering about whether to get them or not, and they'd mostly sold out. Fortunately Net-A-Porter had them in stock, with a 10% discount for first time orders, and free returns. That'll do nicely…
-
@Paul9221 they look great. My everyday specs are JMM Dealan's and have been considering a set of sunglasses from them, completely agree on quality etc.

I'm totally sold on these, now. I was driving with them yesterday and it felt like I had such a larger field of view with these compared to my previous pair. I just needed some friendly confirmation that I didn't look like a fool
Those Amboise look great. Based on the pics you posted earlier, I imagine these will suit you. Quite frankly, I think you could get away with just about any shape/size frame.
Post some pics once they arrive!

I had not seen the Dealan, those look great!
It seems like some places let you sub out the lenses. This being my first purchase, I just took the stock (my reseller didn't offer replacement lenses). Since you're using these as corrective glasses (if I'm reading this right), did you just order the frames from a reseller of choice and take them into your optometrist to insert your corrective lenses?

@Paul9221 I got them from my optometrist in Manchester (Seen) and they did the lenses for me. They do them for sunnys too
-
@Paul9221 the frames look good on you, so don't worry about looking like a fool.
I'll post a picture of the Amboise when they arrive. I'm going to take them to my optician to get corrective lenses (probably clear) fitted. My main worry is that the right lens will be too thick, as I've got a -6 prescription in there! :o
@LewisStonehouse I've spoken with Seen a couple of times, nearly got a pair of frames posted down to Oz from them. They seem a good company.

I have some Danish designed, Japanese made dual-tone powder coated titanium glasses by a company called Orgreen Optics. While that sentence sounds perfect, for my prescription, they have been frustrating because they are front-heavy and readily fall off. I found some glasses I liked online by Moscot that have compatible clip-on shades (Lemtosh). I found an optician on our new side of town that stocks them. Love the optician and sure enough the glasses are fantastic. I’m very excited to have them coming in soon and look forward to wearing glasses more and contacts less.
Moscot is a New York business led by a Jewish family for five generations. I love supporting an independent family business such as this, and am a big fan of their designs in general.

I have Lemtosh sunglasses and Genug eyeglasses. My wife has a pair of sunglasses also but I can't remember the model name. I've never been happier with the quality, style, and customer service from Moscot and I'll probably never buy something from another brand.

Nice @setandsetting the Lemtosh is what made me look for an optician stocking them and the optician I saw used to work for them in NYC and knows the family. He had nothing but positive things to say about them. I’m inclined to follow your lead on brand loyalty. They felt so good on my face and the fit and finish were great. I don’t really have a need for new sunnies but almost got some anyway.
-
Nice choice @henry_david - I was eyeing a pair of those because I need some sunnys, but think I'll probably just get another pair of Dealan's in a different colour for ze shades
-
Thanks @LewisStonehouse
Have you ever peeped Thierry Lasry? I snagged some GLCO x Thierry Lasry shades a couple years ago (I got the JMM as I wanted to have both black and patterned to choose from). These are the collab shades I already have:
Not the best image but whatever.
The collection that I like the most would have to be the Thierry Lasry x Rhude collab. Here's a snapshot:
-
Thanks much, @Paul9221! Yeah, I'd heard of them, but quickly dismissed them out of hand (I'm really partial to the Thierry Lasry collections). I'm so glad that I took the leap. Which are on your list to snap up?
Yeah, the lil downturn and less square frame shape is not the norm for me, @Joberwocky. Loving tf outta them. I've worn tortoise exclusively for the last four years for a reason! Glad to have some black sunnies again.
Having both of these is quite a departure for me as the nicest I'd had was Persol or Ray Ban. I'm glad to have tried these brands out and love how stout they are. The GLCOs are tough as nails so far.

Thanks much, @Paul9221. She's the best cause she knows that I'm such a picky asshole that it's usually better to work with me on gifts lol.
Ah rad! I went to HS in Santa Ana and spent a lot of time in Garden Grove at the shop of a knifemaker whom I respect a lot.
And YES to the SELA store. I skipped the MF store even though it's just down the street from SE, but I hear it's bananas. Being in San Francisco (the Outer Sunset), I love both the SESF store (I copped my first pair of IH, the IH-301S, back there in 2011) and the Standard & Strange store in Oakland.
You're so lucky to be so close to LA man. Living in Orange County and having such a rad city nearby is epic.

The frames came in in about a week–something is going on at the lab @henry_david

Ha! In the 17 years that I've been married, my wife has returned all but 2 of the gifts I've gotten her. I just stop trying. On the flip-side, she just looks the other way when green packages arrive from the UK
Dude, I went to HS in Santa Ana! I'm going to PM you LOL
I've been to the SE store in SF once, long ago! I shop from S&S all of the time now (just got a package from them yesterday) but have never been in the store. We're planning on heading up to visit my brother for Thanksgiving. I was thinking of dragging him with me to S&S to and buy him a hoodie or something
I don't think I've ever had the pleasure of going through the Outer Sunset area of SF but it looks amazing! SF in general just has so much great food, fashion, and I adore that weather!
-
LOL yeah I just gave my wife $$$ so that she could go on a spending spree and get what she wanted for herself. Not taking any chances this time around, @Paul9221
S&S is my fave almost solely because of all of the Real McCoy's that can be had there. I've snagged a zip hoodie, crew, and beanie from them. I'm on the fence about having some Wescos special ordered through them rn.

Yes!!! I picked up like 3 Real McCoy sweaters from S&S last year. The sax blue zip-up is probably my favorite.
I'd say the only sweatshirt I like more is the Strike Gold hoodie that SE sells. It's SO soft!
My daughter wants to check out the Berkeley campus while we're in the area this year. If they're open, I'm hoping to stop by S&S while in the area.
-
That campus is NUTS and so, so beautiful. How soon would she be applying/attending? And you're in luck: the S&S store is currently open for in-person visits. I'd know cause I just stopped off there about a month ago

I've had a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers for years. My son accidentally sat on them and split them in half a couple weeks ago. I ordered a new pair online for in-store pickup at my local shop.
Never received an order confirmation email or anything, so after a couple days I called the store to ask if I could come pick them up, and they said, "yep! We've got them right here!" Went to pick 'em up no problem, and walked out happy.
Couple days later, finally got my order confirmation email, followed by a ready to pick up email. Couple days after that got a "don't forget to pick up! Orders that aren't picked up after 7 days will be refunded!"
Couples days later another don't forget to pick up email.
Finally received a "sorry to say your order has been refunded due to not picking up" email, and the refund may take 3-5 days. Sure enough, I was fully refunded for the purchase.
tl;dr: THANKS UNIVERSE!
