I would definitely struggle through getting them inside out or you could end up with unwanted marbling or creases.

            Hi all,
I have in my possession my first IH 634-XHS! Ive worn for a couple days now and am looking to get the first wash out of the way.  My only question seems to be regarding turning inside out.  Does it really matter? Is it even possible with denim this heavy!

.      I don’t have a problem turning my XHS inside out before I wash them, but can’t turn them back to right side until they’ve dried. I think the recommended procedure is to turn inside out,and to soak the with a shower head before putting them into a machine. Some use low or no spin,I don’t pay attention to that. If your concerned with shrinkage keep the water cold. If you don’t turn them inside out you run the risk of a white line down the leg. Good Luck!

Concur with all of the above, it's worth wrestling with them to get them inside out - you don't want to f*ck em up at the outset with weird streaks. I just turn them inside out, wash at 40 no spin, then hang them somewhere warm and well ventilated, making an effort to open the legs up so air can flow around well, then wrestle them back the right way out when they're dry. You'll maybe end up hiffing and puffing a bit and losing a bit of knuckle skin, but I've never had any dramas doing that

                Hi @wk

I’ll go a bit against the grain and say inside out has been meaningless for me.  Machine washing has given me terrible results; inside out, pre soaked or not.

Hand washing is the way to go IMHO.  Guaranteed results.

Here’s a pair of machined washed denim from tonight.  Did my best to control marbling but this what usually happens for me:

Seconded @hoppy_IPA. I just don't know wtf I'm doing when it comes to machine wash.

Inside out + in the tub + hottest water possible + Dr. Bronner's + hand agitation.

I air dry inside out in the bathroom overnight and then put them on the patio in the sun during the day, turning them rightside out and putting them on while the top block is still a little damp.

So far no major f#*@ ups over here!  😛

Hand washing is the safest without a doubt. There’s a consensus (that I have no empirical data on), that US washing machines are pretty harsh on clothes compared to European machines.

I always machine wash my jeans (40C and max 800rpm), and have never had marbling except that one time my little guy had puked all over my 666-XHS and in all the stress I forgot to turn down the rpm and they went through on 1600. It is the rpm that causes the marbling.

Yessir. Measured in revolutions per minute. My machine goes from 600-1600rpm. The lower the rpm, the gentler the wash.

Some machines let you turn off the spin cycle completely.

Yup. I get it now. Usually the higher end machines have that feature of no spin cycle. Also i think the machines with agitators are harder on clothes and jeans in particular than the machnes without.

My washing machine is a "front loader".  Do you suppose that makes a difference compared to the traditional top loading machine?
Ive tried turning the spin completely off; I feel like Ive tried everything and only hand wash is guaranteed not to crease or marble.

I'm not sure.  Ours at home is a front loader too.  I have definitely screwed up a few items by not being sensible about what settings I use. I tend to do 30C and no spin for best results.  I always soak before washing and always turn inside out.  I also try and put more than just one item in the wash, preferably a sweatshirt and pants, I think this "softens" the wash cycle…..

Front loaders are the norm in  Europe, so no. In fact I’ve heard that top loaders are worse for this, but again I have no personal experience.

I think this is key. I always do it. Two mins inside and out with the shower head then straight in the wash.

Top loaders are more harsh than front loaders, generally speaking. I've also had better results washing jeans with a couple of other items, as Giles said. Typically, I toss in items of varying sizes- a towel, some socks, and a t-shirt or two, for instance. I have no empirical evidence to support this system, but it works pretty well for me.  Oh yeah- wash inside out, light soil cycle, low spin (my machine doesn't give rpms, much to my annoyance).

Thanks for all the washing advice.  I have top load and i havent figured out how to control the time for soak.  I think it drains after 10-15 min regardless of what i do…turning the washer off etc.  I usually go wiht tub soaking/washing which is what I did, and managed to get inside out.  Worked like a charm.
