Random Rants

Bought something from a forum member on the 8th of March (located in the UK) and still waiting for it to go through the Frankfurt customs…

Is anyone else getting pummeled by the universe on the road these days? I’ve had three cracked windshields from random rogue rocks in 6 months. Just driving peacefully and “smack!” some shit hits me square on the glass from out of nowhere. Too many damn two lane roads I guess. This last one hit at the top of the glass and is cracking down through the middle of the windshield. Bummer

Sucks man, sorry. A cracked windshield is the most annoying thing ever. You have to see it every time you drive until it's fixed. The car is still driveable, and it doesn't seem worth the $$, so you're like maybe I can just get away with it? But then you worry that it's getting worse, or maybe you can see that it's getting worse. Just awful.
I've been driving like 1/5 of normal mileage due to pandemic and work from home, so no unlucky incidents like that. I did, however, open my sunroof this week on a nice day, and the thing refused to close. It's an old ('08) Accord, and there's a way you can supposedly "reset" the control unit but it never worked for me. So I had to pull down the headliner and use an Allen key to manually close it. But, with this style of sunroof, there's no "stop" when it's closed, there's just a point where the sunroof is sealed. So I had to keep getting in and out of the car to look at the seal and guess when I had the thing closed.
I do love this car (bought it brand new in late '07) but…maybe it's getting to be time to let it go. In fact the scant driving for the past year has almost certainly prolonged its life. At this point any major issue is probably not worth fixing.

I got the opportunity to spend $700 (which was the "friend price") on a new windshield about 6 weeks ago courtesy of a sugar cane truck in Louisiana. I've determined that I'm just going to take the Hank Moody route and quit giving a fuck about dings and damage as long as my car drives well. I don't have a single body panel that doesn't have either a door ding or some sort of hail damage. Also, I'm never buying another black vehicle again.

That story hit close to home @tvenuto I felt that. And @Clint_D Ouch! I think that’s a sensible attitude. I feel like the universe is taking all of our fucks away from us, whether we like it or not. This morning I woke up and went to look for my fucks but couldn’t find them. When you got no fucks, you can give no fucks. Ah ah ah

Yea I avoid black for cars as well. I worked as a detailer at a dealership and black ones were always the hardest to get looking good for a buyer, even if they were brand spanking new. Silver ones you just washed off, maybe just rinsed. And I lived in the city so I got over dents and dings really quick. My bumpers are pretty scarred from all the parallel parking too…

Oh man, that hit deep @Clint_D. My first car was a ‘88 Chevy blazer. That’s what saved my life when I tumbled down the highway in 2002. But it looked like a triangle when it was over so I got another ‘96 Blazer and absolutely loved it until it had some catastrophic malfunction. I was talking to my mechanic about what to get, and he swore by idea to get a stock F150 with no upgrades and drive it til it dies. I opted to get a 2002 Dodge Dakota R/T, and now I’m here. I wish I could go back to that moment and do it over.

What few concerns I had about the appearance of my car got destroyed in a hail storm last year. As long as it runs, I'm happy with it.

I'm 18 minutes late for work so far waiting for this tanker to fill up with tar. I cant back up either because it's a one lane road and there are umpteen tricks/cars behind me.
36000 or 50000 gallons full the sign says…

@Filthy Bone apple tea!
I'll never forget the worst slice of pizza I've ever seen. My buddy ordered it, took one bite, and then threw it in the trash. I had to document the moment.
-
Edit: I was thinking about this again, and I didn't throw mine away. I thought mine was good. I have been carefully brainwashed to be grateful for everything, especially food. So I don't ever throw food away. I always eat it. But this was actually not too bad.

For a quick single, I've had Celeste and Red Baron. In this category I prefer Red Baron. Obviously, I would really prefer a true Pizza.
