I’m a fan of Elijah Craig bourbon,so I would be especially interested in that one. For starters what was the alcohol on that one,and how upfront is the bourbon flavor?

I'll warn you, it was a bit pricy. Just north of $20. It was fantastic, though. 12% ABV. The bourbon flavor was very well balanced. Certainly evident, but by no means overpowering.

I will give it high praise. I honestly could not think of another bba stout I have enjoyed more…

I’m sure  Elijah Craig barrels are a lot harder to come by and probably more expensive as well. Bourbon County had some limited edition BA stouts that were aged in high end bourbon barrels, that I think started at around $25 a bottle and they were only available in the Chicago area. I’m happy and lucky that one of my local breweries has been partnering with Jamesons and every year they’ve been giving them more barrels to work with. It’s usually the best beer I’ll have all year. This year they had so many barrels that they were selling the empties for $50.

Ola Dubh (pronounced ‘ola-doo’ and Gaelic for ‘black oil’) was conceived in 2007. It was the first ale to be matured in whisky barrels from a named distillery and with traceable casks and numbered bottles, it is a beer with real provenance.

This amazing brew has been aged in selected oak casks formerly used to mature Highland Park 40 Year Old Single Malt Whisky, adding complementary whisky notes to our chocolatey, bittersweet beer.

It was as good as it sounds. BlackStack is my hands down favorite, when it comes to IPAs. Especially the triples. If their stuff manages to make it's way to your side of the pond, don't hesitate…
