@Tiro thats an interesting idea. They previously made the hooded N1 Parka and if I recall correctly the body was longer.

@Giles, is there any chance you can tell us when the revised version might arrive?  Planning and waiting isn't quite half the fun but winter in my woods is so long I need something more to do than conjugate Sanskrit verbs.

Yeah I totally missed out on that one [emoji3525]
I’m a huge N1 fan, unfortunately due to my longer upper body I can’t wear one without it looking rather awkward…

Waxed cotton would be nice too on this.

hello all– new here to the IH community and raw denim community in general.. i have an unpopular opinion of not enjoying tapered or slim styles so i'd love to suggest a wide or relaxed style more in line with the 1955 model but wider in the thigh and leg with a high-waisted fit. i've yet to pull the trigger on a IH pair but was hoping to find a more relaxed and roomy/baggy pair before i did. hope y'all are doing safe and well.

We’re in the same boat then mate. I’m mostly into repro jeans. 44 cut, 47 cut and 50’s.
I also prefer lower weight denims.

@b4ggyj34n5 Straight, relaxed jeans are becoming more popular again, so not that controversial.

The 634 has the most relaxed leg of all IH cuts, but does not have a high rise. Relatively wide and straight, it does have a pleasantly fitted top block. If you look at the XHS and 21oz versions then they come up slightly wider than the other iterations.

Look at the 888. It does have a taper, but is quite relaxed especially if you size them TTS. Not slim at all. It also has a high waist and roomy top block.

Then there is the IH 1955 cut which is the most trad cut IH do.

Having said all that IH is not a repro/retro brand and never will be. Haraki-san takes inspiration from the past and filters it through his own ideas and the motorcycle culture he comes from.

Haraki actually actively dislikes the 1955's I "forced" him to make.  I've learned over the last 15 or so years, what I can ask him to make and he will listen, and what I can ask him to make, and in the course of so get "that look".

Personally, I'd quite like a pair of looser/wide jeans, but I can't see it happening I'm afraid.

thanks @neph93 and @Giles for the insights and response. makes sense that the motorcycle wear is what haraki wants to focus on– i would say the way motorcycle jeans has been appropriated in counter culture is a subsect of motorcycle culture. i understand that he might not want to copy retro designs but aren't some of these tapered and skinny styles considered "retro" ? hope haraki loosens up in the future, no pun intended  😉

i really just love finding the baggiest high-waisted jeans i can find 🙂

Didn’t Harakiri-san used to wear the 634 like all the time?  I definitely would love to give the 634 a go but in a lighter denim…

If u want a serious high waist. U should give the TCB 40s a go. Was in the contest, unfortunately I fucked up on sizing...
Shoulda sized up. I might have to throw my pair on here...

@b4ggyj34n5 Giles was the main mover behind the 666, 555, 777, and 888. Have a look here for the story in his own words: https://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=8856.msg663192#msg663192

Haraki-san was somewhat reluctant to produce any of them, and his innate conservatism meant that it took a while before he started selling them in Japan. The 555 was available through IH International for years before Haraki-san started selling it at home. In fact I don’t think the 777 sees much action in Japan to this day.

I consider high waisted, wide legged jeans to be a more traditional cut. Normal in the first half of the 20th century and into the 50’s. While the 666. 555 and 777 would have had similarities with 60’s and 70’s cuts. When I say repro and retro I mean direct copies or close iterations of historical models. While the 634 and 1955 were both inspired by specific 501 iterations they have been modernised and altered enough not to be considered repro’s. The 1955 is closest to an authentic reproduction.

In my opinion the 634 and 777 are the two best cuts IH offers. I think I'm going to try the 888 next.

I think if the 634 or 888 were sized up a size or two they could be quite baggy.

Definitely. And as said, some iterations are wider than others. Always worth checking that out with the «compare» function.
