When you have a piece of furniture that comes in three boxes, it seems to me that the assembly instructions should be in box one, not at the bottom of box three.

Arrival in Chicago a few days before Christmas would make me believe a wire was crossed somewhere in the holiday chaos. Here's hoping opening a case will make someone actually look for the thing.

My mom sent me a card from Japan in early December that I still haven't received. She usually sends me a card along with $100 cash. I'm sure the dollar value of your package is substantially more but sadly this type of stuff happens. I'm guessing either someone stole my card or it got lost in the sea of mail from the X-mas rush. Anyway, hopefully you get your goods.

The same thought crossed my mind. I'm not sure if the government shutdown has created any backlog with customs as well. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed though.
Department of Homeland Security is affected by the shutdown, so Customs and Border Protection workers are either furloughed or working without pay. In theory, cargo inspections and processing should continue as normal, but if if I was working without pay since before Christmas, I doubt I'd be giving it my best effort.
Here's hoping your stuff will appear eventually…

+1 on the hope.
Linking to Random Questions, Does anyone know how US federal "working without pay" works? -

Sending cash in the mail is never a good idea.

I know. I tell my mom this every year but she still does it

Especially when the card being sent is in a colored envelope that is clearly a Birthday card or the like.

Funny you mention this. I found an old x-mas card my mom sent a year or two ago and it was sent in a red envelope and she wrote "X-mas card" on the front
It's a miracle it even arrived. But, she's Japanese and isn't familiar with mail etiquette, so i'll have to mention it to her next time.

Ha! Yep. You got lucky with a number of honest government employees that's for sure.

Don’t hate them but love them a lot less than I used to. I used to try and wear nothing but and was sad when winter came and I had to wear something more robust. I now only put them when I’m on holiday or need going out to play with the kids in summer. After going over to custom boots I don’t even find them comfy anymore.
