Thigh stretch is a little hard to come by. The percentages are minimal, but .2” on a 12.3” thigh should be fine.

Personally I look for a smaller waist measurement than usual on the 888 because of the high rise. Seeing as this is 21oz I’d be extra careful to get the smallest waist I could, still with a comfortable thigh.

Heya Reuben, thx for the info!

Why would you try to get the smallest waste on account of it being 21oz?  Because it stretches well?

Exactly.  The waistband gets a lot of pressure, so it stretches a lot. The thighs, not so much of either.  Some people are more dedicated masochists than I, and will do squats and lunges and other activities to put pressure on the thighs and stretch them out.  It will work, especially with this denim, but it's not as easy as getting the waist to enlarge.

I'm certainly no denim expert, but…  I think it's worth remembering that the fairer sex may--unless you're a pencil-thin metrosexual type who by some stroke of fortune can actually make it work--consider jeans with overly tight thighs to look woefully ridiculous.  And, honestly, I can't say I blame 'em.  You can leisurely work away on a tight waistband behind the concealing comfort of your woolly jumper, but when it comes to the thighs, well... there ain't no hiding that!  Ever since being called out on the ridiculous tightness of a pair of jeans which I had thought were actually quite flattering, I have realised that having a bit more room up top is a whole lot better for me in terms of both comfort and fashion.

Still...  Horses for courses, and all that.

Thanks being the one who went beyond whether one could to whether one should 😉

Seriously, this is also a good point. Much to consider!

@Paul9221 a pair of IH-888-OD are on their way to me now. My IH-888-UHR now measure 34.6” after shrinkage and wear and fit perfectly. The OD pair have a starting waist of 33.5”. If they’d existed I would have gone for something closer to 33” but allowing for 1” stretch should be enough. The 21oz stretches quite easily.

It is the classic 21oz denim, just like the IH-555-01.

Thanks, Reuben!  How about the thigh?  Did you size that so that the thigh fits out of the box?  Or did you size down a bit so that it stretches to you?

The 888 has a more relaxed thigh than many other IH cuts so I was more concerned about it not being too big. At 12.9” on a tagged 34 I expect no more than a third of an inch stretch. 13.2” on me is comfortably fitted.

The IH lot number system is not without its peculiarities. If a model for some reason gets a lot number out of sync with the others then it sticks.

The first three iterations of the 555 cut were called -01/-02/-03. Probably seemed a good idea at the time. The 01’s could have been IH-555S but that would have conflicted with the IH-666S which was made out of the same 18oz denim as the IH-555-02. So IH-555S-21 would have worked better perhaps. The 03’s should have been 555-SBG at any rate. It is what it is now [emoji23]

Heya guys, so I finally got my hands on a pair of 888s (Thanks AJ!) and I've got a possibly stupid-sounding question 🙂  How high are you guys wearing these?

When I first put them on, I hiked them up as high as possible and got it so that the waist was just 1cm under my belly button, which was surprisingly comfortable!  But throughout the day, they kinda slid down to my about where my 634s sit, about 5.5cm south of my belly button.  I figure that so long as you cover up your naughty bits, you're not doing pants "wrong" but I'm just curious for sizing if I pick up another pair of maybe the 888s-OD.

Unless I cinch my belt a notch tighter, which becomes uncomfortable, my 888-NT's sit at my hip bones. All of my jeans ride at about my hip bones, regardless of how high the rise is.

IMO it comes down to the hip width. Higher rise cuts usually have a smaller waist than lower rise cuts, because the body's natural waist is smaller than the hips. Sizing down in this cut will make the hips a little snugger, and keep the jeans riding higher.

disclaimer: I'm using myself as a reference, and I'm a slim guy. Not everyone has the same body type, so the same size in this cut could fit very differently on two different guys with different body types.

@Paul9221 pretty much same. As heavy and as much as the denim stretches there's no avoiding them sitting low. Despite wearing mine for a year they still sit at my hips without a belt. I suggest a military web belt. It can be adjusted to whatever size you need and no need for being too tight. I use this one (when I wear a belt). I like this kind of buckle better instead of the slidy one.

This is one of the reasons I love Iron Heart overalls so much. They can be roomy and they always stay up. If I had a genie I would wish for some Ultra Heavy raw overalls. Or 25oz XHS overalls. I guess if I had a genie it would be 25 oz because it would probably take magic to make.

Paul… I have a few versions of the 888s. And each one first slightly different. I would say my 21oz are probably the more true version of the cut and my OD’s have more of a rise and my NT’s sit slightly lower. All fit perfectly and I don’t get much sag nor do I I need to hike them up with a belt. I think you really have to watch those measurements and know what works. I like the 888 as I have thicker legs and they fit perfect all the way down. Having said that, I just bought my first 555 because the measurements were similar to the NT and I knew they would work. It took me a bit to find my best cut.
