      @f12 some brilliant bike shots

Just came across this thread so thought I'd share some pics of some recent work. I've gone back to do some shoot on film, mainly playing about with double exposures.

Thanks man !! And loving the photos, especially the last. That’s so rad that you’re shooting film, which body are you shooting on ? (Love nerding out on film lol)

Really love the last picture as well. My digital has multiple exposure capability and I keep thinking I want to try it,but I have enough trouble composing single shots. I still have my Canon film cameras. What film did you use?

Cheers guys. For night work my current favourite film is cinestill 800T. The only film body I own that has multi exposure capability is the Canon Elan 7e (happened to be my first camera). Shooting doubles on film is a bit of a guessing game but as long as you take into account accumulative exposures you should be good to go!

I also use an M6, and wish it could shoot multiple exposures!

I got a digital camera for Christmas. It has an adjustable lens and is 16 MP. But it only does 720p video. So I was wondering, is a digital camera with a mirror better, and are there any SLR cameras that also take video? That aren't a fortune?

A lot of people feel that mirror-based SLRs are passing away. Nikon and Canon still use the mirrors in the majority of their cameras but the mirror can be loud and as with any mechanical component, can fail.  Sony is the front-runner of the mirrorless tech. Their A7 line of cameras have wonderful user interfaces and taking amazing pictures.

"Fortune" is so subjective, especially considering how much we pay for jeans LOL, but if you wanted to get 4K video on a ~$1500 budget, I would recommend you check out some of the Panasonic offerings (DC-GX9). Panasonic and Olympus (OM-D E-M10, E-M1) have some really solid options in that price range, and you get 5 axis in-body image stabilization on these. Sure, they're not full frame (they're micro 4/3s) but you'll get good footage, just not as great low light performance as you would from the Sonys.

@Paul9221 thanks for such a detailed answer! I think I am gonna go with this, it is cheap enough, has a couple of lenses and does what I want. https://www.amazon.com/Canon-18-55mm-3-5-5-6-Cleaning-Accessory/dp/B0797Y9SKM

Heya @Filthy no worries!  I used to follow this stuff a lot more closely but I've kinda fallen out of it.

That kit isn't a bad kit, you'll have a lot of potential to learn about taking pictures.  I started with the similar Canon Digital Rebel 15 years ago.  There may be better options, but for the price, you'll get a lot out of that kit.  If you wanted to stay in the Canon camp and go mirrorless, you could look at the Canon EOS M100.

I was thinking about it while I was waiting in line to return that stuff and I decided not to buy any camera. I would rather the people who got me those gifts spend the money on themselves. It will probably be just another thing I buy and use a couple times and never use again. Thanks anyway.

Well, that's a very selfless attitude!

Photography ends up being an extremely expensive hobby. I bought a similar kit 15 years back and, within a year, I bought a lens that cost more than that camera, a year after that, a newer camera, then a wide angle lens, a macro lens, a flash, etc., etc.  I'm thankful I was able to break free.

My current camera is from 2013 (Olympus O-MD E-M1) and I have 3 lenses for it.  It's not too expensive but it lets me get pics of the kids for the grandparents and posterity in general.

If you ever find yourself needing something more than a cell phone camera, let me know.

I ordered a Leica TL2 with the Elmarit 18mm pancake lens in the Black Friday sales. Compared to my mobile phone, it's like having a cheat mode. This is a shot I took just playing around, and with no post processing or anything.

The TL2 is an interesting design. There are relatively few buttons and dials, and it's driven through a touchscreen on the back of the camera. The body is carved from a billet of aluminium, so it feels really solid.

I've got an M mount adaptor, as I already had a couple of lenses for that. Haven't tried the combination yet, but it should give good results. One of the reasons I went for the TL2 over the Fuji X-T3 is that it integrates better with these.

No joke. I upgraded last year to a Fuji X-H1 with a XF 16mm 1.4, one of those situations where the lens was damn near the price of the camera. It's an amazing lens, but now I want to add another with a little more versatility, so I'm looking at the 16-55 2.8 and that one's like $1100.

It's an expensive-ass habit for sure, and like I need another one on top of guitars and denim ::)

There was some rare sunshine so we took advantage but we still had to deal with the wind which was kicking up the waves pretty nicely on the sea wall. I was hoping for a nice bit of spray to add a bit of interest to the shot when this happened… poor Steve.  😃
