How I get a little more hem space for the pants/jeans that don't fit over my boots…

You won’t be satisfied until you wear Iron Heart.

I did a DIY overdye on my 777 blk with Simplicol „Samt Schwarz“ from the local drugstore. It came out really great. The colour is very even (looks better than on the picture).
Unfortunately the leather patch became very hard. Oiling it didn‘t help. I’m afraid it’s gonna break. Any tips or ideas?

They look great! I think if you ask @Alex or @Giles nicely you might be able
To purchase a new patch and ha e it sewn on.

          Maybe so. Maybe not

@UnTucked if you don't mind sending me your address. I can throw a few of these Chicago screws in an envelope and send them to you if you want. They are just like Iron Heart uses. Edit…I should say for absolutely free.

I still have the ones I took out, and can put them back in.

Well, I can put one back in… I trimmed the leather, so only one will be able to be reinstalled.

                  Thanks for the offer though!

Okay. It's one of those things when you need 2 but you have to buy 50. You could put the other back in of you just go through the old hole with a small drill bit or nail. Nice sewing job by the way. Edit.. oh I see that is the front. I was thinking it was the back…

Unless you have access to an industrial sewing machine I think your best bet would be to saddle stitch it (https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-saddle-stitch-leather/)… There are lots of other resources you can check out on saddle stitching, youtube was how I learned along with some leather working forums.

To get the right thread and needles I'd suggest heading over to https://www.rmleathersupply.com/collections/thread and grabbing some John James needles + some Ritza thread.  For jeans the polyester Ritza thread would probably hold up a lot better than waxed linen.  I would go with .6mm thread + size 004 needles... if you already have a replacement leather patch then that's all you should need.

                        Good luck!

One other thing to keep in mind is that you may have a hard time keeping the leather lined up properly on the jeans while you're trying to sew it.  In this case you may want to get some contact cement (glue) from the leather supply store and put a thin bead on the top and bottom of the leather patch.  This will help keep the patch stay put while you're sewing.

If you're going to a leather supply store like Tandy I'm sure you can just explain what you're trying to do to them and they can get you everything you need.

                            Good luck!
