What shipping method did you use? Priority mail or something else? And did you use one of their boxes or did you use your own packaging? Box or padded envelope?

As for shipping method I'm not entirely sure but I always do the cheapest so whatever that is.  I used my own packaging which was a padded envelope to ship them.

Ok thanks. I was pricing Priority Mail because it’s automatically insured. I’ll check standard shipping tomorrow.

Yeah, I've sent lots of things to Europe via USPS and I always specify "cheapest method possible" when they price it out for me. Clothes usually are in the $25-40 range, I think.  I like using padded plastic envelopes, so contents are a little less likely to get water damaged and/or ripped.

Even the least expensive choice will be trackable using the number off the customs form, by the way.

Ok. Do they give you the option to insure the package on the cheapest method, or do you just ship it and cross your fingers?

It doesn't come with any insurance but I think you might be able to add it?  Also as Chris stated, a tracking number isn't included but you can use the number off of the customs forms.  It also the slowest method, sometimes taking up to two weeks to get to your destination.

Quick question — who here has shipped a pair of jeans from the US to Ireland (or England or Europe in general)? Who did you use for shipping and how much did it cost? USPS wants $69 and UPS wants about $100 more than that. Surely I’m doing something wrong.

From my experience, using USPS for international is always more expensive than other options. UPS or FedEx should be far cheaper, because they operate in many of the countries abroad, whereas USPS is the American postal system, and will have to pass along shipping to another company at some point.

                  True.

It's slightly embarrassing that Belgium tracks USPS packages better than the US does, even while they're still in the US.

okay, this question is down to personal preference. but i'd like to hear what you guys think.

i'm heading over to europe in nov. while i'm over in paris from 18-23, i'm taking a day to do a day trip to ghent on the 22/11 (as @Seul suggested). however, a thought struck in my mind to head over to frankfurt. the two cities from paris do not greatly differ by car travel. The only difference is when i hit the german border, i'll most likely be able to cut the travel times as shown by google maps.

i've always wanted to go to germany, have a shot on the autobahn. similarly, i'd like to see belgium and what it can offer.

if it was up to you guys, which would you pick and why?

If you were to rate your options on a scale of 1-10 how high on the scale would driving on the Autobahn be? If it’s not 10 maybe do something else.

oh it's pretty high though (9.9/10), it's always been a dream to drive on the autobahn as a car enthusiast. next to driving on the ring..

But if there is no need to see Frankfurt and Sinn, I would go to Belgium with a short trip to Aachen or Cologne @louisbosco .
