Interesting to hear feedback directly from a (good) runner about the Vaporfly 4% effect. Here are a few articles I read recently, c/o Mario Fraoli’s excellent weekly ‘morning shakeout’ email (if you’re not aware of this, I strongly suggest you subscribe):

    NY Times: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/07/18/upshot/nike-vaporfly-shoe-strava.html

Updated tracking link, previous one will not work. Interested to talk about those shoes more, but need to get to bed!

@mclaincausey I live in Colorado, but front range, near Boulder.
Just picked up trackers, used at the Hardrock last week. This has to be good juju!

Cool!  A buddy of mine paced at the Hardrock last year (or maybe the year before, I forget).  His pictures really made me want to go do some hiking in the area.  Animas Forks in particular looked absolutely enchanting.

@cander49 thank you! Sorry to anyone who may have tried to follow as the trackers weren’t working well all around. I’ll post a write up in a few days. Finished 102.1 miles with 42,000 feet of gain in 45:56, faster than my most realistic pace by two hours plus. Truly an amazing experience, already thinking about going back next year. This course shares a few sections with Hardrock, and yes, incredible scenery.

Here is my trip report on the race, if of interest to anyone:
                    http://www.hikingrmnp.org/2018/08/2018-ouray-100.html?m=1
@mclaincausey if you’re looking for an occasional partner, let me know. I am not very fast overall. Quicker in mountainous terrain.
Back to the vaporflys, now that I am thinking clearly! If there is a more scientific study done that definitively proves an advantage to them, would they be banned? If for nothing more than not everyone will have access due to sponsorships or affiliations. Maybe like the Speedo LZR?
I won’t dispute the mental effect of something, which is to say if you think something will make you faster/recover more quickly/not get as sore in the first place, then it will. I’ve worn compression leggings for years because I think they help though there seems to be little science to say that they actually do. But I THINK they do.

I did my first proper run (7 miles, will seem puny to most) in years up and down rocky paths around Cheddar Gorge in the South West (UK) this Saturday with my with brother and his wife, who are mental, and do ultra marathons and Iron Man’s etc.. kept up for 4 miles and the rest was visually beautiful but internally painful.

I’m still in recovery but motivated to get proper fit again…..whilst still not treating my bod as the finest temple.

I've gotten in some insane trail runs this week. 🙂 Hip was screwy momentarily, but I got it back under control just in time to host a running friend for some really incredible mountain runs for most of a week.

I am running the Yorkshire Marathon which is taking place in York on Sunday October 14th 2018. I am taking part in this event because I find setting achievable personals goal for myself, such as this, helps me to stay focused and motivated over the weeks of preparation and training, particularly on the difficult days when the weather is far from
ideal or when I feel tired.

I went to Broadway Lodge for treatment of the disease of addiction, something I'd suffered with for a number of years. After leaving Broadway in August 2009, I moved to Bristol where I lived and worked until March 2013. After Bristol I moved to Trowbridge, got married and took up running and haven't stopped running since.

I am so grateful for what there is in my life today which I didn't have prior to attending Broadway Lodge. Broadway Lodge was fundamental in guiding me towards who I am today. Through completion of primary and secondary stages, I gained what I needed to go to Bristol, a new city to me, and engage with life whilst continuing to grow as a person. I site the foundation I gained at the Lodge as the bedrock on which my life now rests.

To run the marathon to raise funds and awareness for Broadway Lodge seems a natural thing for me to do. Any money I raise that may help another person get the support they need is well worth 26.2 miles of my own blood sweat and tears.

Thank you in advance for your support, I am grateful for any donations to help me achieve my target to raise £400 for Broadway Lodge.
