^^This.  People get resistant about going to a professional for mental/emotional stuff and that's bad.  If you'd go to a doctor because your knee hurts, why would you refuse to do so when something really important, like your mind, is involved?

You might know that I work in a large Hospital for psychosomatic disorders. You wouldn't believe how many inpatients we have and how "normal" they are. It's just nothing to be ashamed of and shouldnt be treated as an issue that solves itself.

You're right, but I can understand why people find it difficult. I suspect many perceive a bad knee as an unfortunate injury, while a mental condition is seen as a weakness. I think this can make it much trickier to admit to yourself, let alone others.

In addition to which, it's easy to be confident that bad knees can be easily, mechanically fixed. Fixes for stuff in the mind - especially while you're stuck in the middle of it - can be a lot harder to believe in.

Yeah, I'm just trying to hold on until some relief presents itself. Surrounding myself with friends and staying busy seems to help. Tough times…..never understood depression until now.

Hey @gratefulmelon- sorry to see you don't feel well. Don't know where you live, this is an interesting column by an American writer & former talk show host…ok that doesn't look promising. It's good, though. Says it better than I could.

Got clean again and reconnected with friends and a sense of serenity in most areas of my life.
Left a promising career in healthcare management for a job closer to home/friends, with less stress, to be able to spend more time with my son.
Took a 50% cut in salary.
Had a promising interview yesterday at a private/for profit where I've worked with several staff members in the past. Great benefits/pay, in a field I'm very experienced in with opportunity to grow personally and professionally.
The last two years have been some of the toughest but most rewarding I've ever experienced.
Hopefully 2017 will have brighter days in store for me. I sincerely wish the same for each of you guys here. I've made some decent friendships with some of you and hope to build more in the future.

                                          Got a job
                                          In another city
Stayed in hotel, w friend, apt
Drove back and forth weekly to originating city (least positive activity for timeframe)
                                          Bought a house
                                          Relocated to new city OFFICIALLY
Sold house for max profit in old city
Paying off debt from being out of work
Looking for new bike & truck. For medicinal hill country purposes of course.

…and bought 2 more pair of IH bottoms! 😉

In chronological order… moved back to the US, got a new dog, got engaged to my gf of 9 years, finished my PhD, got married, got a tenure track job at a research university, moved across the country and started the new job. I'm grateful for everything but also hoping for a less eventful, less stressful 2017.
