I know that with raw, unsanforized denim, the aim of the initial soak is to minimize indigo loss.  This is just to preserve the potential for the highest contrast fading, right?  As in "keep the denim as dark as possible so that when it starts to fade, the fades are more pronounced?"

Reason for question is I gave my 666SIIs a second hot soak (actually 2nd time was a hot washing machine run without detergent).  I got some very, very slight fading in a couple of areas where I already had creases from wearing them for an hour or so after the first soak.  Does this make any difference to anything?

the main reason to soak em is imo to "embed" the threads into the fabric, what in the end, result in a longer lasting…

and for the fading, that might be the case...

Thanks @rocket and yes totally agreed, I didn't phrase the first part correctly, agree that reason for the soak is bed in the threads but I guess I meant that one always aims to minimize indigo loss as part of that soak (such as the theory of soaking inside out which frankly I never bother with!).  Thanks for your thoughts.

              From H:

We can't tell that is the same of ours or not.
Because IHSH-92, the fabric is not our exclusive. It was a classical fabric from the past.
For IHSH-100, we made its fabric more thicker than the original. so this is our original and exclusive.

              Thanks. Much appreciated G and H. 🙂

And to get rid of any sizing (usually starch) residue.  Which will also increase the life of the fabric.

Imo the reason is to make the clothing fit… Unsanforized raw denim fits really weird if it's not seen water (preferably enough to make it shrink completely to its intended size)

Thanks guys, yes understand why we do a soak just curious about all the attention given to minimizing indigo loss in the process.  I guess that's in an attempt to preserve the contrast of fades.

I guess that it is a personal thing or believing. I don't know if it really minimizing the loss, maybe someone else can answer this.

I for my part do not really care and just throw them into water and wear em after. And when they are in need, they get tossed in the washing maschine. It's clothing, so no rocket science for me…

Soaking the jeans, even washing them has virtually the square root of feck all impact on the indigo.  With rope dyed yarns, indigo oxidises onto the surface of the yarn.  It leaves the surface of the yarn through abrasion (by that I mean rubbing off).  A wash will make not a jot of difference unless you add a shitload of  abrasion….

not really sure why the mods or anybody else that is given the "power" of locking threads,

                                and @grandmasterben

So the thead got locked over on TFL for a while with this post by one of the mods:

Gentlemen. Am I the only lone voice here who is aghast, disgusted and disappointed by the frenzied, celebratory tone of members in this thread that is more akin to a mob baying for blood at a public execution, than the civility and courtesy that TFL has built its unique global reputation upon?

This in ‘not’ the Fedora Lounge I joined over a decade ago, that celebrated the simple message of sharing vintage knowledge and the education of others around the world who, through the global access of the internet could ‘learn more’ about ‘things vintage’ and share that ‘common’ enjoyment with others.

The verbose verbal slings & arrows being carelessly thrown around this thread with stirred up gusto and abandon by a pack mentality seeking media entertainment and gratification is alien to what the Fedora Lounge stands for. I find TFL unrecognisable in ‘here.’ It's shameful.

So easily forgotten in feeding an appetite for ‘through the keyhole’ 'Fly-on-the-wall' entertainment, is the fact that there are real people and real lives being upturned, pulled apart and destroyed right now because of the human story behind this.
But that doesn’t mean you have to gloat and jeer from the public gallery on this forum, sitting detached behind the safety and anonymity of your computer screens, pointing accusatory fingers left, right and centre at individuals and companies.

The WWW and media outlets offer plenty of places and opportunities for you to get this self congratulatory gratification in commenting & lambasting on how some other people’s lives took a downward turn for the worse because of decisions they made. Good people can make very bad decisions at times and people suffer for it. We ‘know’ that. But ‘rise above’ you sticking your boot in because it makes ‘you’ feel good & is entertaining.

TFL is not one of those 'soap box' platforms. As members of this 'private club' you should 'know that!' On the contrary, it’s one of the few ‘escapes’ from such poisonous ‘arenas’ (at least ‘I thought’ it was).

Let the judicial system and the Law run its course please, as justice will be served as seen fit.

For now, it seems, the TFL powers that be are allowing the contemporaneous reporting of the trial on another thread. That should be entertainment enough for those of you that crave it.

I'm closing down this shameful thread as it poisons this unique club.

Imo, the tone is not that much different than before the thread was temporarily closed. Fact of the matter is that, if we are to take the things reported by Sloan as facts, it's a pretty fucking crazy story… it's too insane not to comment on.

There's no surprise that the thread on FL has the popularity that it does, considering that Aero seems to be the brand of choice there. I'm happy the discussion is taking place there rather than here, since obviously IH is more connected to the proceedings than FL.

Yes it's sad that lives may be ruined by the outcome of this case, and yes it's true that a flurry of comments condemning Will for his actions may be akin to mob mentality. BUT, until I hear a better justification of Will's actions than "what I was giving them was better anyway!", I really can't say I feel sorry at all.

Since the thread was reopened and the closing post deleted, I assume at least one other mod on FL feels the same.
