These look so good, I'm temped to get one as my own 33 is getting too tight around the chest.

Yessir.

Sizing up is essential. My indigo 33 is an L and the XL in the OD is a very similar fit.

And I take it the 33-od is based on the regular blue 33 and not the black 33?

Yes, otherwise it would be IHSH-33-blk-od    and the webpage would not say "12oz indigo selvedge denim"
