^ plastic counter sure makes the heel look very thin/low profile compared to other brands like White's that use leather…

There's no plastic in that boot.

So are you saying that those boots were custom made without the the use of Wesco's standard Permanently formed Stytherm™ counter…?

I see what could be a plastic counter sheared off above the heel. I'm not sure there's anything wrong with that.

Leather is nice and Stytherm™ is nice… I really like the different profiles they have. The Wesco’s feel lighter, lower profile, and sleeker and the White’s feel more heavy, chunky, and bulky. I wear both in rotation and it’s a tough decision every morning…
Here is the difference in profile between White’s Smokejumpers and Wesco Jobmasters:

Couldn't you shape a counter in plastic or leather alike however you want though?

^ Yep, but plastic is stronger and therefore is able to be made significantly thinner than leather while maintaining structural integrity.

And when you heat it, you can form it into new shape…...So for instance if you are getting a load of heel slip in an engineer, you can heat the counter with a hair dryer and then squeeze the counter together, and it will have become a little tighter...

The Stytherm in the heel looks thin due to the picture. It's a waterproof material used in the heels, so they  don't tend to sag like the all leather counters do over time:).
