@Chiba J. is it the same soft CXL as the engineers? It looks like it may be a bit firmer (how I think I can tell that is anyone's guess).

I've never actually handled the CXL engineers, but I think this is the same stuff.

I think what you're seeing is just that this is a more complexly structured boot than the engineers and thus less prone to all the bending and creasing.

One thing you can't see in photos is the very nice deerskin lining.

White's, easily.  Viberg is a respectable second.  The Wescos are still new(ish) and untamed.  They'll never be as comfortable as the White's, even though they're getting better each time I wear them.  That's not a knock on Wesco, just a recognition that the choices I made in their construction will restrict them.

random question- i have a female friend who needs a nice pair of winter-ish boots- anyone know of any good brands/examples of wescos that may look fantastic and feminine?

First thing that comes to mind is the White’s lady packer.

Google Wesco, and they show a women's line, "Van Spijker" I think.  Personally, the pieces I've seen are sort of gothic and scary to me, but perhaps they can be customized and toned down too.  I think.  Worth checking out.

My jobmaster lace to toe age is only 1 month, so sad T_T
However, Itwas sent to rebuild in Scappoose and will be returned to me with my new 11" Wesco boss.
