        Hi everyone,

First time poster, long time lurker!

I have a small question about color fade and washing.

It seems that the IH jeans fade a lot quicker than "regular" denim. I have some old Levis that have been washed on a weekly basis for years and they don't show much color loss or fade. On the other hand, i have a pair of IH-634s that shows fading after a few weeks wear, and no washes at all!
Arguably not much fading, but it seems that the indigo in the IH denim isn't fixed as strongly as in other denim.

I need a pair of jeans that i can wash on a weekly basis, what would happen to my IH-634s if i was to start washing them every week?

Would they hold up? or would they look like pale 80s denim in a couple months?

Now before you guys say anything, I understand that most of you are part of the "don't wash your jeans, get great fades" crew, and i do own a pair of IH-634UHR and IH-634XHS that i plan on not washing for a while!
I just need a pair that can be washed often.

Any experience from frequent washers would be appreciated.

        Cheers

@Carlos840 the 634S go through a special process to avoid quick fading (don't ask me for specific details) for raw denim standards.

I had my 634S for 2.5 years now. I used to wash them every 2 months or so, and now wash them quiet more often (always at 40°C, no spin, hang dry). In my experience these lose color up to certain point, after which they basically always stay the same (you can see the color in the photos i've posted on this page).
I reckon that as long as you wash&dry them gently they will keep a deep blue color.

              Thanks guys!

What had me worried was the fact that the 634S showed fade super fast at the bottom of the legs, where your legs sometimes rub against each other, a lot faster than the 634UHR…

I was scared that if i started washing them weekly i was going to end up with jeans looking like this in a couple months:

Giles, which ones would you say would keep their color the longest if washed regularly? The 634S, 634B or 634BLK?

I think that the non selvedge denim in the 1634 is also really a slow fader. I have 10 wears on my pair and they are essentially brand new. Most denim I would see at least some indigo loss at the seat or whiskers.

The 634S fade slower than the 634-UHR.  Fact.

                  634S, 634B or 634BLK.  Impossible question - 3 completely different denims/finishes…..

I've worn all kinds of denim over the last 10 years. Levis, APC, Nudie, 5EP, PBJ, TFH, SugarCane, Samurai, and of course IronHeart.

The 634S is THE most stubborn to fading denim I've ever come across. I've gone through multiple other pairs of jeans in rotation, and still the 634S looks near new! That's 2.5 years of wear.

Carlos, you shouldn't worry about washing your jeans… it is true that they will become lighter, but most of that is going to come from wear.  It's also true that your other jeans may hold their color better than even the highest-priced japanese denim, but that's a function of their design.

The cheaper jeans (levis, etc) are meant to the stay the same, while japanese denim is meant to wear, lighten, and deteriorate like they used to.  If you want a pair of jeans to stay exactly the same, it probably wouldn't be the smartest move to by raw denim for that... they're supposed to be like a canvas.  That said, if you are insistent upon it, I think that the 634s would probably be your best bet.

It's time for a new pair. I love my XHS but they are too tight for riding. I've got a few question for my IHF fam:

                                        1. What happened to the Zimbabwe cotton?
                                        2. Selfedge says Size 34's waist is 33.3, this site says 34; do the measurements differ depending on which site I order from?
                                        3. Is the S softer than the UHR?
                                        4. Is the S once rinsed or raw?

colonelclegg: if you threw up on them just wash them dude, especially if your not sure if its your puke…......
