Did my first 200 km Brevet at the end of April and it went really well, we had exceptionally nice weather. All in all I did 248 kms in one day since the start and end of the ride was quite far from where I live. Probably could do a B300 without problems but the longer ones would be much harder. Did the 200 in just over 8 hours including breaks so way faster than I had planned. Physically I'm good for the longer rides, but I'm having problems with the mental side. My morale and spirit seems to dip after about four hours in the saddle, and even though short breaks and something nice to snack on brings it back up for a while it starts to dip again. The longer I go on the more frequent the dips. Gonna have to read up on that if I'm going to pursue longer rides and see what I can do about it.

The good thing with us not having a proper winter this year is that I've been riding enough to make ~100 km rides feel like leisurely quick rides. Been hitting the trails on my mountain bike frequently too and after next week's trip I'll probably focus on that for a while 🙂

This coming Monday me and five friends are spending a week on the road, we'll be doing ~750 km in 5 days. It's been really cold the last week with occasional snowfall but it looks like it's getting warmer again. Here's me doing a shakedown/test ride last friday (+80 km) with almost all of the stuff needed for the trip (I was lucky, I had packed my shell jacket and my rainlegs which I don't normally carry with me). It got really cold at the end..

Bike weighs about 11 kg including fenders and rack and the stuff plus pannier bags around seven. Really hard to pack when the temps can be anything between -1 and +14 degrees centigrade. And I need "civilian" stuff too because we're spending the weekend after partying 🙂

Got new wheels too, since I had to get them for this coming trip and the importer didn't get the Notubes Alphas in time I opted for the trusty Mavic Open Pro CD:s. After 500 km:s with them I'm really happy I did, they're just super solid and reliable.

Jii, if you check out mike Hall's youtube page he has video diaries of him discussing his experiences on the tour divide and the world cycling race.  There are a ton of them, so it might take awhile to audit through them but he touches on his daily struggles physically and mentally, along with gear he uses etc..  He is really inspirational and I personally feel that he will be remembered as one of the all time greatest cyclists by the people who actually hear about him.

Congrats on accomplishing the 200k and I hope you have a great time on your upcoming trip

Back from the trip! 791 km in five days. Everything went really well even though we had rain the first two days and a crazy headwind on the third. The last two were really easy, sunshine and a nice tailwind. I wish I had this week off too, I would have ridden back home. Already planning a 10-day tour in august in Sweden with a friend 🙂

I had packed just the right amount of stuff and could easily had done another week or two with it. The only things I didn't use were two pairs of extra socks (packed four pairs, overkill!), the extra pair of gloves I took with just in case and a 4-pack of painkillers.

The bike and the rider both performed flawlessly, two flat tires is all. No chafing or places getting sore either. I'll post pics and video when we get them sorted and edited. So happy!

I picked up a new bike last night for commutes. Nuttin' "Special", but I fell in love when I test rode it. It has a cruiser-like geometry and a vertical riding position but quite a bit of pep at a price point where I don't have to get ridiculously nervous about leaving it locked up downtown when I tool around town on it. That's exactly what I wanted, all the other commuter bikes I tried were too sluggish. Tossed some fenders on it but don't think I'll need saddlebags for now.

                                  Think it, be it.

Smooth and fast. I really like if a lot. I did 10 miles and was really shot. Riding fixed was pretty confusing at first but, once you get going it gets easier. It's a perfect cross training hobby for skiing. I know  going to be real sore tomorrow.

Outside on the cleaning bench is a Madone 6 with Zipp 404's. Inside is an All City Nature Boy single speed. I ride the steel bike almost daily, the carbon bike is reserved for frisky group rides.

So far I'm loving my State bike. I have been riding it fixed since I got it. I haven't had any issues slowing the bike down. I have yet to figure out how to skid stop but haven't had any issues stopping. Not sure if it's poor technique or my legs aren't strong enough yet.

Long distance rides are tough so far the farthest I have gone is 25 miles. My ass is still sore. I am sure I will get used to it.
