I did consider Andersen-Andersen, it looks seriously heavy-duty. I decided to get a custom handknit instead.

Hey mate, I take an L in IH shirts and the Medium in this fits perfectly. You won't find a better knit anywhere.

Will do. I looked at all the US stockists and didn't see anything I wanted. Thanks much!

You guys are killing me. I've gone completely wool jumper made lately, and these look wonderful.  There's a size chart on the Oi Polloi website, if that helps anyone. No idea if it's accurate or not, but here are the roll neck measurments:

Size                   Pit To Pit Back Arms Shoulders
                            Small                   21.0   26.0 19.0     16.0
                            Medium             22.0        26.5 19.5     17.0
                            Large                   23.0   27.0 19.7    18.0
                            X-Large             24.0   27.5 20.0     19.0

                            http://www.oipolloi.com/andersen-andersen-the-original-sailor-sweater-navy

Sadly I'd probably need it to be 25" pit to pit. Saved some money though, I suppose!

Any advice on sizing?  I have both M and L in IH shirts, both fit, one a bit small one a bit large but both are do-able.  Should I go with a L or M, looking for a fisherman sweater.

                              Thanks, Nick

I'm always M in IH shirts, I ordered a M AA sweater and it was way to big, sent it back.
                                hope this helps.

I'm an L in IH Westerns and Workshirts (mostly) and fit perfectly in an M with A&A.
Their stuff is really heavy and durable, on the other hand stays in shape perfectly - love it.

If you're looking for a Fisherman Sweater keep in mind that it's knitted symetrically, so you might end up having an bulge on your chest.

                                  Cheers

I stumbled upon this brand about 6 months ago and have since bought 2 of their sweaters and a beanie. Their stuff is the IH of knitwear. Great fit, fabric and tough as nails. A single sweater easiely weights  1.5kg  ???.

                                        I seriously like Andersen Andersen!

                                            Hi all,

I am new to the knitwear thing, however I am learning the warmth of wool when it gets cold (and wetter).

I like the look at the Andersen-Anderson sweaters and I think I have narrowed it down to the Seaman and Sailor Crewneck styles.

I will be layering the sweater with a jacket or vest so, I am looking at these models rather than Navy Crewneck or Navy Full-Zip, which look cool but perhaps are a bit too much weight and bulk, especially for packing when travelling.

For those that have the Seaman and or Sailor Crewneck, what are your thoughts about:
                                            • Fit (I prefer a slimmer fit)
                                            • Warmth and ability/need to layer
                                            • Durability (does it get pulled threads easily)

Many thanks and I look forward to your comments.
