D97x7 measured his size XL after a couple of washes and the chest was 22.5".

Yep, just remeasured, 22.5"!

At (22.5") it's almost a full inch of "Shrink" off the (23.4") listed size for the (XL).

Can you also tell me how was it (WASHED: Cold vs. Hot) and (DRIED: Hung-Dry vs. Dryer on high heat)?

Was just wondering if your intention was to "Shrink" it a bit on purpose.
(...Or, if that's about the average amount of "Shrink" to be expected.)

i can't say for sure with the 72, but with my other IH flannels i cold washed and hung dry and didn't see a substantial amount of shrinkage.  They also stretched back out after wearing them for a little while.  Hope that helps.

Just normal 40C washing, hung on a line to dry, I didn't intend to shrink it and suspect that if I ironed it, it would soon stretch back out again.

Long time no see. I wanted this shirt so bad and when I got it, I had to realize that it was to roomy around the body. The fit on the shoulders and arms was good. So I decide to let Mr. Ruttloff make the shirt smaler on the body. Now it fits perfect under my Schmidt jacket.
I washed it at 60° and it shrank a bit in the lenght and the arms.

My '72 is quite big around the chest too but I'd never thought to have a tailor make it smaller.
