I laced my own 29er wheels and it's fairly straightforward as long as you take your time and follow the instructions carefully. I wouldn't want to do it without a proper truing stand though.

Only just seen this thread! I've got a Mercian frame I bought off eBay two years ago sitting under my desk! I was going to get parts from Velo Orange to do it up, but never got around to it. Perhaps I'll give it another go.

"In Great Britain, if you’re 14 or over you don’t need a licence to ride electric bikes that meet certain requirements, and they don’t need to be registered, taxed or insured.
Electric bikes meeting the requirements are called ‘electrically assisted pedal cycles’ (EAPCs). They can be 2-wheeled bicycles, tandems or tricycles.

The requirements are:

-the bike must have pedals that can be used to propel it
-the electric motor shouldn’t be able to propel the bike when it’s travelling more than 15mph
-the bike (including its battery but not the rider) must not be heavier than 40 kilograms (kg) if it’s a bicycle, or 60kg if it’s a tandem or tricycle

By the way, i own an ebike. BH Ebikes. Fantastic here in Oslo. All the year. Winter like summer! Middle of winter with snow, ice…and special winter wheels, it works amazingly well!
