well, I am a 10.5 in Nike trainers.  I brannock at a 10.  My Whites are a 10 and I have a thumbs width of room up front when standing.  I would not want anything smaller.  I suggest doing the fitting method that White's and Bakers do, and sending the results to them.

I contacted Kyle by email. I scanned my foot tracing and sent it via email, he suggested 9E, but didn't seem too sure.

this method of emailing a digital file of the image scares me a might bit… seems like relying on a lot of variables to be perfectly in line to achieve the exact TTS rendering of your tracing... I had to do a tracing for Viberg and just sent it snail mail.... but I am plagued by murphy's law; therefore, I try to reduce my risks as much as possible. Hope it works out mate!

yea, its stupid to do anything else other than what Bakers and Whites says to do.  Trace and measure your foot and mail it to them.  Any thing else and you are risking a major f up.

Not necessarily- I did a tracing of my foot, then scanned and emailed it to Viberg and that worked out fine.  I think the key was marking the length and width of my foot on the drawing, so that the scale could be verified on the other end.

when i sent in my measurements for my first custom pair, I added a few millimeters here and there, thinking too large would be better than too small.
White's obviously thought the same and my boots ended up too big. Not unwearable, but still annoying. I eventually sold them (to mega) and i got all following pairs half a size smaller and one full size narrower.

that is to say: don't try to be clever when submitting your measurements and tracing your feet.

Ill second that. I wore thin socks and Whites came out with a full size larger than I have now. Thats two pairs wasted. Id suggest the only way is to try them on in a store. Forget foot prints. Half a size, ok…but a full size! ComE on Whites!

noted, but when I was talking to Kyle, he said that they generally dont like scans because they can never be 100% that it will print to scale.  I just dont see any other reason to not follow the recommended methods, but thats just me.

time? snail mail will waste two weeks from my end of the world to Eugene OR.

Well, FedEx it than, LOL.  I understand, Im just saying what I was told because I wanted to scan my tracings also, but Kyle was pretty adamant that I mail them to avoid any formatting/size issues.  But I still think wasting 2 weeks is better than ill fitting boots 😉

I agree.  And if that's the way Kyle is comfortable doing it, then I say go with it.  What's another week or two when the wait time is already 3-4 months?  And with boots that should last for years, proper fit is way more important than instant gratification (which you're not really getting anyway).

EDIT: my only point was that it's possible to do a proper fitting with scanned tracings and measurements, not that it's the only way or even the best way.  Every company/bootmaker does things their own way, based on what works for them.  Arguing with them is generally stupid, a waste of time, and only results in bad vibes all around.

There definitely is a weight difference that you can feel, but as Giles said and as I have said on many occasions in this thread, if you size your Whites correctly they will be comfortable right out of the box.

                                  Hi guys,

Thanks for the advice. I spoke with Kyle by phone and as per his advice I will mail the actual scan. Just  talking to him I told him I take size 9D in Red Wing Moc Toe and 9E in Alden Indy due to the narrow toe box. He said he was the same size in all three of those shoes. Has your experience on the SD last been the same. Same across in the size and width.

                                  Thanks,
                                  Jay
