There are no (legal) bars or clubs in Iran, all the bars and clubs that existed in the 60's and 70's were replaced by ice cream / dessert / milk shake "bars".  You go, hang out, have a milk shake, talk, etc.  It's all very clean and wholesome fun but terrible if you come from anywhere else in the world where you expect to go out and have drinks and get crazy at night. 
On the flip side, Iran has turned into a place where you can get some of the most amazing and well made (western style) desserts in the world.
