I’m dog sitting Bruno for a friend this weekend. My boxer Hobbes passed almost 2 years ago and I’ve missed his company very much. Having Bruno visit is nice, similar but different to Hobbes.

Every time I see a boxer I think of George Pelecanos.

This is Sweet Caroline. Rescued(wife rescued) her from the woods a few summers ago. Along with all her kittens in a bag thown in a lake. Found homes for all but one of her kittens. She's turned into our ground mole prevention service. Her daughter is the other cat I'm always posting about. Caroline wanted nothing to do with being an inside cat.

George Pelecanos
I had to google "George Pelecanos Boxer Dog", I didn't know the connection. I now know it's a book Buster: A Dog, who's a Boxer and it's written from his perspective. I'm intrigued, but I'm worried reading the book will make me very sad. Should I risk it?

Can totally understand that, but your smile shows you’re enjoying it!?

I haven’t read it yet. However, I’m a huge George Pelecanos fan. He got his start as a crime fiction writer. He later moved into script writing for TV. His first show was season 3 of The Wire. He then was show runner and principal writer for Treme and The Deuce. But he kept producing crime fiction as well. All of his crime fiction takes place in Washington DC. But it’s not about politicians. He’s my age and I grew up in the same neighborhoods as he did. I like to say that if you wanted to know what my youth was like, just read the first three or four Pelecanos novels. The only real difference is that more people die in his books than died in my life.
Anyway, a Boxer appears in several of his later novels belonging to the protagonist. I assume George owned boxers as well. -
@Aetas loving having him here so much. It’s been a wet weekend, lots of cuddle time on the couch. I’ve got slobber marks on all the clothes I’ve been wearing, but that’s just the love of a boxer and I’ve missed it

@SFMCfranky I’m in need of a new crime author, I’ve been re-reading Michael Connelly (Harry Bosch)lately, I’ll give George a try next! I’ll save Buster until I get a feel for his writing though. Thanks for the recommendation.

If I may be so bold: Start with King Suckerman.
