That's what I took from it, as well. Fortunately, it appears as though a couple of retailers picked up this model so, at least you have a couple of options. (For the time being.)

I didn't get a pair because of the thigh. It was smaller than expected for waist size 36. Was this across the board? Or only for some sizes?

Thighs are ok. These appear tighter then they are, like all heavy denim jeans when you wear them for the very first time. If you wait a couple of hours and then take the first pic, they will appear as baggy as they are!

I didn't get one from this run because of the thigh as well; I was hoping for a little bit larger.

I was a bit concerned about the 'calf area', from knee to hem, but fortunately the taper of these is not too extreme (compared to ONI jeans, for example, or 555 and 777). On me, for my legs, thighs are even too large.
But it's just my point of view. -
13" is the minimum I shoot for on my thigh measurements and the 888 in a tag size 34 shows a 12.9" thigh so I'm thinking I should be good.
