@kkibbey23 there is a reason I never stop at an AP, PP, VC, etc because I’m afraid my resolve would snap and I would make a pricey mistake
@tvaillant75 I absolutely LOVE anything Silverstein and will one day own one of his dials. Luckily there is no shortage of amazing collabs to choose from. There is so much Kandinski, Calder, Miro, etc etc. Anyone into modern art should pay attention to them, it’s a lot cheaper than buying any of the above!

@JDelage it’s the SBGH257. He’s got fairly big hands and wrists (30 years working on oil rigs) so wears it well. It doesn’t wear as big as you’d think though, actually fairly similar to the MM300 but wayyyyy lighter

I can totally understand that! I was originally supposed to grab a ghost Daytona on oysterflex in a few weeks but went in and was like no way they would have anything but it can’t hurt to look
Needless to say the ghost budget is gone

I am not a fan of the Rolex hype. I am a fan of green, and I am yet to find a watch that is as comfortable as a Submariner. Pélagos got close.
I love the invisible micro adjustment on the VC Overseas now. That’s on my list next. That or basically any Grand Seiko.

Grand Seiko released a new iteration of its 37mm hand wound model. What makes it particularly exciting is (1) the bead of rice bracelet, which is amazing, and (2) a soft silver face, which is probably the most ever pleasing dial treatment one can want. I bought the bracelet separately and put it on a different iteration of the same watch and I love it.

Recently picked up this SMP300 second hand for a very good price. These are probably the best bang for your buck out there in my opinion. If you're patient you can find them in awesome condition for a lot less then retail. It's keeping great time so far and overall feels like a tank. My next watch will eventually be a submariner but I refuse to play the AD game. Compared to a friends sub, the sub bracelet feels more comfortable, has better micro adjustments and feels slightly more premium, but the omega keeps better time and gives off more of a " tool watch" vibe, which I'm into.
It wears a lot smaller then the measurements would hint at. Compared to my Tudor black bay 41, it feels smaller, I actually really like the " out-dated " bracelet. It came with the blue rubber strap incase I want to switch.

A while back I had a springdrive Snowflake and it was perfect except for the large case size. It never fit me well and it flopped around on my wrist. Fast forward to the SBGX355, the newer, smaller, and quartz powered Snowflake! I found one on the secondary market and traded my way in. I am very excited

on the topic of seiko and grand seiko, spring drive or hi beat. would love to hear opinions if any. is there a dividing factor or not?

If I got a GS I’d be inclined to get Spring Drive just because it is so novel and so Japanese. I think the sweep of the seconds hand would be mesmerizing.
I did see an amazing hand wound 80 hour high beat with a dark blue dial textured like a birch tree trunk though.

A dive watch I sold a few years ago to support my Japanese clothing addiction
it’s a tribute to the original mil spec dive watch that came to market prior to the submariner. I thought it was interesting but too pricey at 13k what I paid for it. Wouldn’t surprise me if now they go for 20k +

The spring drive with its innovative movement is what a GS is but also the traditional movement of the hi beat is hard to miss.
Thinking of this on my next trip soon after trying it when I was in Japan in April.. just not sure if spring drive or hi beat

I think that the Spring Drive is so utterly brilliant and innovative, and in my opinion it perfectly encompasses all that is Japanese, 28 years and 600 prototypes, who the heck else would do that?

Always wanted a Rolex and when I was finally in a financial position to do so I booked an appointment to buy a submariner and wow, did I get a harsh lesson. Was accused of being a scalper and apparently I was someone who was only there to make a profit and not a lover of watches. I had zero idea of what she was on about and walked out feeling like shit. Tried five more stores in 4 other countries and was given very similar treatment. So I went with Omega. Absolutely love em. The Chrono is my daily watch and feels bullet proof. Can’t fault it. I’d love to eventually add a German made Sinn U50 to the fold and one day a Grand Seiko. I’ve worn Seiko’s for the majority of my life and to step it up and eventually buy a spring drive would be pretty bloody cool. Gotta have the power reserve on the front face though. -
