Advice on Indigo Wabash Care & Fade Strategy (IHSH-227-IND 12oz Wabash CPO)
-
Hi everyone,
First of all, I hope I’m not breaking any rules by posting this — I’m new to the forum, so please forgive me if I’ve missed a thread covering this already.
I’ve recently picked up the IHSH-227-IND 12oz Wabash CPO in indigo, and I’d really appreciate some advice from those of you who have experiance with Indigo Wabash and, ideally, this specific model.
I absolutely love the depth of the indigo and the way the discharge dots sit on the fabric. My goal is to develop strong, natural character over time while also preserving the integrity of the shirt. I’d like to be intentional from the begining rather than just guessing my way through it.
A few things I’d love insight on:
Would you recomend an initial soak before first wear, or should I just start wearing it immediatley?
If soaking, would you suggest cold or warm water? Inside out? Gentle spin or no agitation at all?
Roughly how many wears did you put in before the first wash?
After that first wash, what cadence has worked best for you — longer wear cycles for contrast, or more regular maintenence washes? My instinct is to wear it consistantly and let it earn its first wash naturally, but I also don’t want to overlook anything that might help set the foundation for better fades in the long run.
If anyone is willing to share pictures or photos of their Indigo Wabash, I would sincerely apreciate it.
Any personal experiance, lessons learned, or visual refrences would be hugely valued. I’m looking forward to learning from you all and building some knowlege along the way.
Thanks in advance

You are not breaking any rules, but the forum is full of advice and images if you take the time to look.
Have you read our care instructions and looked in the Wabash threads?
But apart from that don't overthink it. Soaking will make no difference, we have already done that. Put it on and start wearing it, when it smells or looks dirty wash it. Repeat.

I treat my wabash (6oz) quite roughly. It’s my summer hiking shirt. It gets very sweaty, smelly, and dirty. When it does. Wash in a bucket or tub by hand and then line/air dry. I’ve seen the fabric develop nicely and stay strong that way. Have fun wearing it. Thrashing it is what it’s all about. Wabash and workwear should be worn hard!

Wabash, esp IH wabash is a heavy, workwear fabric. It aint silk, wear it and abuse it! It can be a slow fader but when those first little pops start coming out, you wont want to take the shirt off. Nice choice on the 227, it’s one of my favorites as well.

I’ve had my 12oz wabby western in rotation for 13 years and it looks pretty much brand new.

I wore the workshirt version (same fabric as far as I know) 12months.
No initial soak, wash when smelly. I turned it inside out and soaked it, threw it in the washer after in gentle, no spin. After a couple of months I was less worried about it, inside out and into the washer

Wabash is amazing!

@Larkens Wow. Mine has a way to go.

Thanks @Anesthetist and @Richard mine also has miles left in m. It was a slow fader for me, but once you get past a certain point… it’s smooth sailings!
I should get a CPO next haha.
