    • RE: Iron Heart Products - What do you think we should make?

Heavyweight linen or hemp fabrics. Summer is underserved by current core offerings

@shp.7777 That's your decision, risk tolerance, taste, and money. I didn't say "prone"

Also they mentioned the work shirt version of this is delayed due to some production issues of sorts

@northsouthdenimguy Yes, type "double face" in the search. There are 3 threads on this fabric work shirt

Did some research on this fabric. Turns out a few people reported developing micro-tears randomly. Given the novelty and short track record compared with the established fabrics, I think I'll sit this one out

    • RE: IH-1955S-18 - 18oz Vintage Selvedge Denim "1955" Vintage Tapered Cut Jeans - Indigo

@jfive67 Tight areas are sure to break down faster. Not really a problem for me as I wouldn't buy a pair if it bites me anywhere. (Incidentally I'm a big believer in the utility of crotch gussets, but I don't need to get on my soapbox here)

Maybe I'll try a slightly different question: Do you think Iron Heart stands out with its 18oz vintage as much as it does with the 21oz? Considering there are a ton of Japanese repro brands specializing in "vintage" denims, which I just have to point out cost ~$100 less than IH? (Yes I'm aware this is the IH forum, so maybe I can also try this question in more neutral places)

@AdamJ Well you have to control for the user's activity in order to have an apples-to-apples comparison. I just wanted to know if the looser vintage weave and construction makes for a weaker fabric, compared to Iron Heart's regular fare

@welfare_burrito these are my 2 cents so other opinions may vary

pliability - crunchier at the start than 21/14oz but soften up pretty quickly

stretch - similar to the other two, depends on how much pressure you subject the denim over time but 1" approx in the waist to be expected

fades - depends on how often you wear, how much you wash. Some of the coolest fades we've seen are 18oz. You can view them here

What about the toughness and durability aspect? Does being looser woven mean they are flimsier than the 21 or 14oz? (Flimsy being a relative term as I'm sure as jeans, and Iron Heart no less, they are very tough in the grand scheme of things)

By analogy, I believe slubby fabric is less strong and durable than the same fabric, woven with the same thick yarns, just regular and not slub

    • Requesting neck size measurements for shirts

Historically shirts (dress and work alike) were sold by collar and sleeve lengths, and the imprecise S-M-L sizes are a modern concession to mass production. I understand the proliferation of SKUs might crush a small brand if it were to switch to precise neck and arm sizes.

So all I'm asking for is the addition of collar measurements for shirts going forward. As a guy who buys 14.5 or 15 inch sized dress shirts, I am conscious not to wear large collars that accentuate my long pencil neck. (Incidentally that is also why I'm weary of sizing up or buying slim fits; I could end up with huge collar and constricting body)

Hope this request reaches and is considered by the powers that be!

Would be funnier to read it in an accent that would get us censored in 2026...

Another interesting (?) find: there is some use of fusible interlining on the 14oz jeans

Anyways, too hot to wear right now, but look forward to breaking these in as soon as the weather allows. If the fit is ideal for me, hoping to get this in the 21oz and other fabrics

Yep that’s the regular 14 oz. Just thought from the verbal description he gave, maybe?

Anyway, im not seeing what you’re seeing, @SuitOfUHF . The 14 oz denim is pretty smooth stuff, though it does have the double twisted weft.

Are you referring to the blue nubbins in your pics?

Yes exactly, the nubbins. I'm not super bothered if they are not structural (which they don't appear to be)

Sounds to me like you might’ve gotten The Shop’s slubby 1955 collab

Don’t think so. (BTW is the Japanese founder writing the English here lol)

These are my first Iron Heart jeans! Looking forward to a great fit.

Is anyone a bit surprised at the "unevenness" of the 14oz fabric? My impression has been that (with the exception of the explicit slub denims) IH makes cleaner, "modern production" weaves. I'm seeing bits of thick yarn pop out every few inches
