Scratches and an irritating strap change system aside, it's a classic.

From the other day. An unusual family trip to the PA Outdoorsman Expo. Not my usual scene as I'm not a hunter. But my son had a fun day messing with knives and guns with his uncle, dad, and pappou.

Waiting for my students - happy Mardi Gras! At my little Catholic college, lent is obviously a big deal.

@Ross @sabergirl I work as a professor in a university and this is like wildfire... A great example of "progress" just because we could, without any regard for if we should. Don't get me wrong here: I'm an early adopter of LLMs and they have made portions of my life unbelievably easier. But I can see how it becomes a crutch, displacing thought and creativity and spirit and replacing it with sterile, contrived, and entirely unoriginal language. We can't unring the bell so it's here to stay. We're along for the ride, however it ends.
My poor little girl was up all night throwing up so I'm working from home and making chicken noodle soup. This isn't a rant at all. I just feel bad for the poor little thing. I will say that the fucking weather in the northeast has had is all stuck inside with no fresh air for six weeks; it's no wonder we're all getting sick and crazy.
I'm all for the "red W" on jeans or shirts. I think it's a nice wink to the cognoscenti.
@chiverus I am a Seiko junkie! I've dreamt of going watch picking in Japan, maybe more than going denim picking.
@chap this new microbrand is made out of pumice stone so it's lighter than it looks , but I agree that the big heavy watches are becoming a problem.

I love these modern Seiko inspired recreations of classics. Well...up until they started writing 3 Days on the dial. Why Seiko?

@northsouthdenimguy I completely agree with this. There are a few others. Actually, Rolex is basically on that list for me anymore. I won't submit to AD hijinks and I'm not spending $15k on a stainless steel watch with a 30 year old movement in it, in house or not. I have a couple, all bought in the midst of COVID depression on the grey market. I'll likely keep them, but I wouldn't do it again.
@Matt
Chewing loudly was the dinnertime cardinal sin when I was a kid, punishable by immediate expulsion from the table. I thought it was an overreaction...until I had kids.
@northsouthdenimguy @goosehd yeah that makes a lot of sense. In my family we have all sorts of stories of one person's earring becoming someone else's heirloom pendant.
@northsouthdenimguy Delugs has some of those sporty straps with the correct lug mechanism. I dig the green one. Should make the watch more sport and less dress!
@northsouthdenimguy awesome. I love hearing how other people fill their days. Mine are remarkably uneventful as a college professor, punctuated by rare and powerful moments that knock my socks off, in good and bad ways. The things young people face... Sure they're not getting drafted for war, and yeah they create some of their own problems, but regardless it's a generation with a lot of pain and fear in my experience.
Is this room a bit dead? Pity! I've been collecting watches for a long time, and even work on a limited number of them myself. I like restoring old watches and have a fondness for anything before the 60's, though my collection spans over a hundred years with all in pretty regular rotation. Current favorite? I'm looking across the room to see what's on the desk. I see the Cartier tank. I think there's a Seiko MM diver on the winder. There's a chronograph by Unimatic. There's a moonswatch I picked up at a thrift store in Southwold, that I think is probably fake but I don't care.
@scarfmace Brilliant! This year I am starting solo trips with each of my kids, twins, a boy and a girl. They like very different stuff and they both need their own time apart from each other to explore and grow, so we're going to take turns. My boy wants to do Egypt, so he and I are planning that one, which I am super excited about. My girl wants to do France and has since forever, so that's on deck for the two of us. They are both very intoxicated by the idea, which makes their traveller-father proud!
@northsouthdenimguy this is valid. Also they hit me with the "must be home to sign at 2PM" fairly often with no explanation. I may be the only one on earth, but I've had unusual success with DHL.
@truby MoP dials can be truly elegant in the hands of a brand that knows how to use them. They can also be flamboyant. This obviously is the former version. I have an older Hermes Cape Cod around somewhere with a MoP dial and the CC font...it's the only example I have that comes close to looking this good.
@SKT ah yes, the old "colonizing Mars" debate. A tale as old as time.
