    • RE: Self Edge Austin Opening Weekend - May 2024

      @Giles I wish you could've made it, but I guess recovering from surgery is an acceptable excuse. It was great to see @Madame-Buttonfly, @Alex, @Danny-RnH, and @Clint_D, though.

      And a Self Edge only 75 miles away; will wonders never cease...

      Well, damn. I've been wanting these forever. I suppose I should log in more often, so I don't get blindsided when things pop up on Instagram.

      Keep dreaming :-). The problem is the minimum run is enourmous.

      Dammit.

      C'mon, Gav- you know I have a hard time telling the great cities of the world apart.

      By the way, how old is Tommytron now? 17ish?

      2013?

      Can’t wait to be back and have no idea who 90% of everyone is 🤦‍♂️🤣

      I’ll bring name tags  😎

      That NYC? If so, I'm pretty sure it's fall 2012.

      @neph93:

      Tightness of weave is at least as important if not more so. Many people experience the 21oz to be more comfortable in warm weather than the 14oz due to how relaxed the weave of the 21oz is.

      Weave tightness is way more important. Hottest pair of jeans I ever owned was a pair 13.5oz denim. And while I don't have a pair currently, I wore the 21oz 634S denim for years through Houston summers,  which many would consider warm and humid.

      @Giles:

      He's very proud of it, but I am not sure he entirely likes it…..Undecided whether he will sell in Japan.

      This reminds me of how he felt about the double indigo. Luckily, that worked out ok and he seemed to warm to it eventually.

      @Giles:

      Billed as 14 but the way he have woven is that it is super dense to give it a dark face so it feels more like 17oz. Traditional broken twill denim is woven under very high tension to give it a smooth face, ours is woven with lower tension in the earl to give the face plenty of character.

      All cuts would be the plan…..

      I only had to wait twelve years for Haraki to warm up to the idea…

      (or is this one of those things he doesn't like, but decided to do because you convinced him it could work in the international market?)

      Is MmmBop a masterpiece of modern music that will influence generations and eventually be regarded with the same reverence as Mozart? No, but so what? It's a genuinely good pop song, and that's fine. It's worth mentioning that the Hanson guys are actually reasonably talented, too.

      (Oh, and awards for art of any kind are fatally flawed from inception,  since they depend on the impossible proposition that something emotional and subjective can be measured and the "best" is determinable)

      a reflexive hatred of black shoes

      What's wrong with black shoes!  😞

      Personal preference; for no definable reason, I've just always hated black footwear- shoes, boots, even socks. I don't own any and I see no reason to ever change that. I fully concede that this is a me problem, not an everyone else problem.

      If I didn't have a reflexive hatred of black shoes, I'd have bought a pair of these Naglev boots a long time ago, though i like the high tops better than the low.

      Oh, yeah- I haven't tried their hiking boots, but I absolutely love Inov-8 trail running shoes (I've owned 6 pairs so far).

      I have quite possibly spent too long inspecting the seams of my shirts  :).

      Yeah, same, which was part of the reason for the editing  🙂
      Unfortunately, I did all that late at night and I don't think either of my answers were right…

      It's probably something technical- based on my shirts, it looks like workshirts have side seams going the same way and westerns have them going opposite ways. Westerns have a gusset at the bottom, which must cause some change in construction technique.

      The lefty GMT seems unusually gimmicky for Rolex.

      That Oris with the grey dial is fantastic, though I'm disappointed they aren't using their signature red rotor for it. Maybe with the full production models that will change?

      I blame it on @trail and arrow. I'm not sure how, but I'm sure it's because of him.
