Holiday Traditions

We've done this three times now and will continue to do so, so I think it's officially a holiday tradition. There's a nice hotel in the area called The Lodge at Torrey Pines, and it's an absolutely gorgeous building which (and I'm not architecture expert, so please forgive me if I mess this up) seems like a combination of craftsman and Japanese design, and it's just stunning. We go there, see the carolers singing by a big fireplace, and tuck ourselves into a little room off of the bar for a martini and what they call the "Drug Store Burger." It's a pretty fancy place, so it's definitely a treat to go there. Anyway, here are some pics that my wife took last night.

Check its out if you have time! It's quite a place. The restaurant is closed for renovations, but you can still eat and grab drinks in the bar.

Hattie was born on the 22nd, so we like to do a birthday weekend and Christmas celebration at the Broadmoor ahead of Christmas.

Not a big fan of 'Weihnachtsmarkt' but Mrs E loves it and you know 'happy wife ...'.
No, actually it was fun and the 'Bratwurst' was awesome.

We just had our traditional praising of the Christmas tree. Essentially, you visit your neighbours, tell them how pretty their tree is and drink Schnaps with them. Gotta keep the traditions going

We do a Christmas party for family and friends every year. It’s a cookie contest party and everyone brings a cookie they baked. All the partygoers vote on the best cookie and we give the winner a tree ornament as a prize.
Party was Saturday and was a blast! Lots of whiskey drinking and cookie eating. So much fun that not a single photo was taken.

The dreaded trip to the in-laws this evening, the time there is always fine apart from the MIL insistence on a big group photo as soon as everyone arrives, I purposefully always wear jeans and a white T shirt and just ask to be photoshopped into it
