@Kasi has your son traveled to the US before? He may leave this trouble in the past and fall in love with our food, amazing culture and national parks. You’ll have to fly over here to get him back.

@Kasi Sorry your son had to go through all that. When we went to the US last year the customs was a massive pain in the arse, badly organised, slow and incredibly intrusive, even compared to crossing into the Eastern Block in the 80s/90s.

I have travelled a LOT. For 20 years after the fall of The Soviet Bloc I spent most of my time travelling to and from Russia and her ex satellites. Yet despite that and also visiting a lot of third world countries, the very worst border crossing I have ever experienced was 20 years ago crossing from Canada to USA, and I am a white English man. I will never forget witnessing a TSA agent reducing an Asian family to tears, with seemingly boundless joy that his day was going so well.
I am sure that family were (and still are) scarred (and scared) by that experience. I certainly was.

@Kasi Sorry to hear about your son’s misfortune. Yeah, it sucks no way around it. And yes he will remember it and become a stronger man for it. I’ve had a few sketchy border crossings in my time, but the worst was returning back to Canada in the early 90’s. If he can handle this(and it sounds like he is), he’ll have a great time studying in the US. As fathers we naturally want to help and protect our children, and times like these make us feel helpless. You’ll get through this and congratulations to your son on getting to study abroad for a year. It’s already starting to be a memorable experience.

You can’t pick were you want to go. They pick 1 for you from the options.Out of 150 students only 10 gets pick to go abroad. Those are the toppers in achieving the grades.
