Actually found some good stuff, just doing my own little research. Some of the Faith No More stuff is quite pricey, really old stuff, picture discs, first pressings, promo 12" singles etc… Plus an Ella Fitzgerald sings Cole Porter album, and a Stan Tracey Quartet album, and a rare complete misprinted sleeve version on "Band On The Run" complete with posters etc..

According to ebay, there could be a new pair of Whites in this for me  😉

What's up with the disparity between Self Edge  measurements, and the measurements on this site? I wanted to order a pair of jeans and I asked them to measure, and they obliged… but the measurements on both sites still don't match up...

i think there are a few reasons why the measurements won't match up perfectly:

                  1. small label with handcrafted goods tend to have small differences in sizes in the same batch of an item.
                  2. they use different measuring techniques, check the way the vendor measures items with the way IHUK measures
                  3. the measurements published are a average & so no pair is really going to match up to it.

i would go to the respective website, & see how the item in question is measured.  i would then use the same method to measure my best fitting garment & compare to decide what i can/can not fit into.

hope this information is helpful & hasn't thrown you off the path

                  all the best,

I checked the measurement techniques, and I'm aware that no two jeans can be identical.

But look at the sz 36 666od at Self Edge and compare it to the measurements on this site. Tell me if you don't think something's way off, even accounting for all those things you mentioned.

The waist measurements are pretty close

The thigh measurements are different because the two vendors use different angles to measure the thigh

The knee measurements are different because SE measures at 14" from the crotch and IHUK measures 13"

I know violence is not the answer, I got it wrong on purpose

                        Thanks for clearing that up.

I assumed the measurements techniques were the same, didn't take the angle into account, nor distance from crotch.

Finally, my first pair of IH….

no problem, well actually f^ck you very much.  nothing personal i do understand how these measurements can get folks all crazy like & coupled with the amount the goods cost a bit of anxiety is understandable.

True, and nobody seems to measure exactly the same way, making comparisons across sites basically impossible.  Add to that the lack of availability that means the 97% of us outside a couple of major cities can't try pairs on before buying, and you have a recipe for serious stress.

Yep, and that's really helpful; pics and substantial explanations of exactly how the measuring is done are great.  I appreciate the time they took to get the pictures and do the write ups for that.  The problem is that Self Edge and Blue In Green each measure their own way, and that's just two stores here in the US.  If you're ordering from The Denim Vault, DC4, another IH retailer or a Rakuten store, there's no telling how many other measuring systems there will be.  Then there's the variations from pair to pair, conversions from inches to centimeters or vice versa, so on and so forth.  Bottom line is that measurements are always going to have some guesswork involved.

Even if two people measure the same pair of jeans using the same method, there's still going to be slight differences, based on how tightly each person holds the tape, how tightly the jeans are pulled flat, etc.  Like all the other veterans, I know the main measurements that make a good fit for me, and that eliminates most of the worry, but when I order a pair, I still have to cross my fingers and hope they'll be right when I put them on.

I understand and it is a continuing problem.  The reason that we decided to do it the way that Iron Heart in Japan does it (and I suspect that most other Japanese jeans companies do it too, as Haraki and Tom who were/are pattern designers were incredulous that there could be any other method) is that we can now, if we want to, take their measurements and publish before we actually get the products.

There is one proviso here, when the Japanese measure front and rear rise, they do not include the waist band, we will continue to include the waist band n our front and rear rise measurements.

It is an IHSH-20 from a couple of years ago.  Not available new, but not impossible to find on the second hand market….
