It depends upon the weave and colours used, some dyes make the yarn stuffer than others.  The IHSH-302 and 312 were woven and brushed at a different mill than all the other UHFs.

But in general, making clothes out of natural materials is not a science.  Not all sheep, cows, horses, deer etc are the same.  Not all cotton is the same, think of it like how terroir changes the character of a wine, the same is true of cotton.

Hello guys. Its been along time since my last pear of IHs which were the 301s and for some reason I’m itching to get into a new pear. I was recently looking into the 555s super slims either in the indigo or the super slim superblack. My 301s are a size 27 so I was looking at a size 28. Only thing is that I’m not really the tallest out of the bunch and measuring my inseam at a 25.. I was wondering if anyone out there can let me know if trimming down the inseam will effect the hem length. I basically just cuffed my 301s when I wore em all the time back in the day. Thank you!

On the 555, not so much. The leg from knee to hem is much straighter than in the 301. All the taper is from thigh to knee. I’d guess about 0.2”.

Just did the math, if they get hemmed 10” to 25” inseam then I was pretty spot on. I am an English teacher though (and a bit of a twat), so do please check my work [emoji1]

I recently ordered both the 34 IH-NO-LOT and 36 IH-888S-21OD thinking one of those might be right for me. What I found is that I seem to be in between cuts of these two.

NO-LOTs were perfect on the waist but the front rise was very uncomfortable through the crotch and rear rise would slide down anytime I sat or bent over. The fit through the thighs was also a little tighter than I prefer as I keep a phone/wallet in my front pockets. Also the pocket bags seemed small?  The knee was OK but would have preferred another .5" evenly from the thigh to hem.

The 888s was much too bulky in the top block in both the front and rear giving a diaper / "poopy pants" look but at least the waist stayed put when i sat/bent over. The thighs were much too big and gave the pants a bit of a pantaloon look. Knee and hem were fine.

After heading to a local store, and trying on a dozen+ brands, styles, etc, I found that 34 ONI 902ZR's fit nearly perfect and grabbed those. Though I'd still like a pair of IH's with the 21oz fabric….it just felt so amazing.

Is there a pair for me?  I asked customer service who had been extremely helpful but they indicated they were unable to recommend / search for jeans given a list of the measurements I provided.  I attempted to look through all the jeans on the website, but wondering if I missed one the collective might recommend.  The closest I found was the 36 666 Shinyata's (link below) with a smaller waist and higher rise but was told these would likely not be restocked.

Thanks in advance for any advice or insight!

Have you looked at the 1955? It's available in 21oz indigo and overdyed indigo, but it seems like it's frequently on the verge of extinction. Hopefully they'll restock these at some point, because I'd like to pick up a pair, myself.

I personally prefer higher waisted jeans, but they're new to me and I've learned a couple of things experimenting with them. Firstly, I'm sure you've probably figured this out, but it's good to go with a smaller waist size because they're sitting so much higher. Beyond that, I tend to err on the even smaller than I'd guess side if the jeans stretch a lot (like the 21oz tends to do, for example). I've got a pair of 888 21OD and a couple pairs of Mister Freedoms that seemed really tight in the waist when I first got them, but subsequently stretched out to be very comfortable. If the waist starts out comfortable when you first try them on, you're going to get more of that sorta poopy pants look (haha I know exactly what you mean).

I hope that helps! Maybe some others will chime in…

Take the Oni’s or any other pair you like the fit of, and measure them in the Iron Heart way. Then you can compare the measurements to find the cut you will like.

I had seen these but had figured the rise was too high. Exactly how much smaller in the waist should I be going? All of my comfortable jeans measure 18 to 18.5 measured the way IH shows. Otherwise, the 1955-OD is perfect except for the rises.

For the other comment about measuring, I know exactly what I want but I couldnt seem to find anything close other than the 666 noted above. This is also what I sent to CS asking for help but they said they were unable to search or filter their product list in this fashion.

                          If it helps:
                          Waist: 35.5 to 36
                          Front: 11.75 to 12.25
                          Rear: 15.75 to 16.25
                          Thigh: 12.75 to 13.25
                          Knee: 9.5ish
                          Hem: 8ish

I'm less fussy from the knee down so long as it's around there.

The 634's rise appears to be too low (11/15,5) compared to needing 12/16.  The NO-LOTs I tried were essentially the same rise as these but were very uncomfortable through the crotch/groin.

The measurements you posted seem like an 888 would be a good choice, or at least to my eyes… not sure where you live, but if you were able to try on some Onis, you might be able to try on some IH in person?

Given the stretch of the 21oz denim, I'd consider maybe measuring a pair of jeans you like that you have worn, where the waist is stretched out to where you like and is comfortable for you. Then try an 888 that's an inch smaller. It might feel snug, but it'll stretch about an inch in the waist and some other areas in the top block as well. This could solve the problem of the dumpy look.

634s will definitely be closer to your desired rise measurements in a size 35, but on the lower end at around 11". You can always ask IH what the specific measurements are for 35s they happen to have in stock, as there is shift from pair to pair — you might be able to find one with a slightly higher rise.

Size down on the 888. Lower rise, smaller top block. Less baggy. The 21oz OD and indigo both stretch at least an inch, so a w34 should end up big enough after a week of wear.

Alternative would be the 633. That is only available from Self Edge.

Dead on with that suggestion, @sabergirl. Idk what would be closer save for the IH-634-XHS. I know that it's 25oz but, looking at the dims, seems to be nearly perfect for what you're looking for, @pechelman. It's just … heavy af lol. The next closest has already been mentioned, the IH-1955S.

                                          Thanks for the recommendations all.

I'm in Seattle, so if there are places nearby that have any IH items I could consider driving. Looks like Self Edge has a location in Portland a few hours away. Are there others people might know?

I'll take another hard look at the 1955s, 634s, and a size down on the 888s and what might be available, but I would like to focus on the 21oz fabric. I will say, the size 36 888's I had were actually 35.0 in the waist (17.5" as measured flat per the video) and I'm not super inclined to go much smaller than that. Probably 17.25" would be about as small as I could button and I'll always err on the side of being comfortable/mobile than having a 100% amazing looking fit.

@neph93 Regarding top block differences, given that the problem area in the rise was right through the middle, exactly as measured (crotch seam was pressing hard against delicate areas), how would I know that a 634 would be any different? Asking honestly.
