Why would one prefer a half western over a full/normal/real western?

Variety. Sometimes I want something other than a full western

Could someone remind me what "endangered" means? I see the 1955S is marked thus and I thought it was extant…

It means when the existing stock is gone there won’t be any more. Things go from extant to endangered to extinct (as a general rule, there have been exceptions).

Correct. As you say this has been extant a long time but that has changed. I suspect G is rationalising cuts with the advent of the somewhat similar 888, but that is just a guess.

^ sounds like heaven. Brits aren’t big on that either. Norwegians are however.

when I was in college I went back to Japan for my 'study abroad' program, even though I had lived there previously. anyway, my roommate was this kid from Hokkaido who never looked me in the eye when I spoke to him. He stood sideways and talked to me while looking at me from the corner of his eye. when my mom came to visit me she was introduced to my roommate….needless to say, she thought he was a shady sonofab*tch  😃

^ Interesting. Brits aren’t that obvious about it. I think we’ve mastered the art of looking beyond the face or at the mouth or nose so it’s not evasive but isn’t direct eye contact. The eye content scared the shit out of me when I moved to Norway, felt like everyone either wanted to sleep with me or punch me…

eye contact, or the lack thereof, doesn't bother me that much. I think, too, it depends on the situation. If you're in a casual setting then it's not that big a deal, but in a business setting it can come off as disrespectful if the person you're talking to isn't engaged in the conversation and not looking at you imho. It's similar when you're talking to children. My son, who is 4.5 yo, yells at me if he doesn't have my undivided attention, so I try to make an effort to be engaged and listen to him when he speaks.

Likewise with handshakes. Here in the US, a firm handshake is customary when meeting someone for the first time. But sometimes guys will squeeze the sh*t out of your hands like it's a competition. Firm is good but limp-wristed is not  😃

Well said. In my line of work eye contact is a must (serving/bartending) and I am unnerved by it at times. Here in the states the amount of eye contact varies from situation to situation. But I do notice that when talking with Northern Europeans. Swedes, Norwegians etc there is an intensity in the eye contact. And I always look away…  can’t hack it

                        Maybe so. Maybe not

Funny you say that, in the US prison system eye contact means one of two things….we are going to fight or we are are going to f@#!

It's very intentional with me though. I do it to establish dominance, lol
