After a nearly two year hiatus (because I got too fat) I finally squeezed back into my 25oz jeans. It wasn't necessarily a comfortable day, but I did it!  😃

I posted this pic in the WAYWT thread but wanted to post here too. I really love the 634. Not too loose and not too slim. As soon as I bought these I found a pair of like new 634-B on eBay and got them too.

I experienced XHS for the first time. This is a very unusual and funny feeling. There is one day of experience.

There are strange folds on the butt. But even if it will look so awkward, I always have where to apply it anyway.

@kornnn the jeans will settle and mould with wear. They will also shrink a little with a wash/soak, creating a tighter fit. When you wear them afterwards they will stretch with the movement of your body and mould even better.

Looks a good fit for you.

Thanks. I'm not too worried about the look of these jeans. The usefulness of the durable material compensates for any potential drawbacks. Well, this is also the droll thing in my wardrobe. Maybe I'll buy the indigo black one someday.

Any word on when a restock of these in the larger sizes will be?

                        Thanks!

A rather obvious question that has been asked many times, I'm sure:

Will shrink 1" with wash and and will stretch 1" with wear means that, in the end, I get what I see in terms of the stated waist measurements?

@cityofdelusion they’ll stretch out beyond initial measurements despite the shrinkage, so I’d treat it like any other pair but just be prepared for a little bit of initial discomfort

Got my first pair of 25s today and the denim is unquestionably impressive. I'm going to enjoy their evolution over the years. What I don't get though is why make a pair of jeans that you can't button up. Just…. smh. And sure, I know the heavy fabric eventually breaks in and the holes open up and won't require the same crazy amount of work just to button up the fly, but it still seems like there should be a better way.

@Joe_M they will button up, it just takes a bit of perseverance. They’re usually fine after a couple of days. What I tend to do is get a pair of needle nosed pliers and shove them in the holes, give them a few twists applying a bit of pressure, helps loosen them up. Other than that I recommend buttoning and unbuttoning them (quite roughly) a few times whilst you’re not wearing them. You’ll be fine

Hi @LewisStonehouse, thanks for the suggestions.  As you said, they'll be fine eventually.  Still though, it's worth wondering if there could be a design modification for the heavyweight items that could eliminate the need for a toolbox or black and blue fingers.

I guess the solutions would be lighter denim, smaller buttons or bigger holes. There’s plenty of options for lighter denim, and if you made the buttons smaller/holes bigger they would still ease pretty quickly and you’d be at risk of a pair of jeans that like to unbutton themselves all the time, which is less desirable. I think the main point is that getting into such an extreme weight of denim will always require a bit of initial discomfort, but that pays off in an epic pair that fades like nothing else. That initial discomfort isn’t for everyone, and there’s plenty of denims that require less perseverance over the initial few days (or tinkering). I guess what I’m saying is it just comes with the territory  🙂 🙂

@Joe_M like any well made garment, if it were easy to button up at first then it would not hold up over time. Just practice buttoning them up while you're not wearing them if it is that tough for you.

You should try and do the buttons up on a Fine Creek FQHH…. I had to button the buttons while I wasn't wearing it probably 75 times or so. It took me 30+ minutes just to do the buttons up the first time. Now they practically pop on and off themselves.

Also back in like 2014 or so, they had issues with the button holes coming apart on XHS. So how IH has adapted over the years to overcome this weak point is pretty awesome. The button holes hold up way better now. I'd say like after a week wear they will be super easy. It usually takes me laying in bed and about twenty minutes to get the top two buttons done up on a new pair of XHS since I always size down.

I haven't tried Fine Creek but I have actually worn 25oz extreme weight of denim from other manufacturers and some are designed to more easily button and some are not.  Some require breaking in to button and some are designed able to be button from the start.  Iron Hearts are particularly stubborn and require some breaking in, that's their nature and that's fine.  I'll try to find some way of managing and to be worthy of them.  And if I can't, well there're plenty of lighter denims that require less perseverance and discomfort for us softer types as Lewis kindly noted.
